In the world of visual arts, a lot of names stand out. There are popular artists, gifted mentors, and the patrons that make their art possible. Ted falls into somewhere in the middle of those three, and he likes it that way.
A gifted artist in his own right, Ted made his living in his youth through producing art. He travelled the world exhibiting his works and rubbed elbows with some of the biggest names in the business. His art was showcased in exhibits from London to Shanghai, and for a brief moment everyone knew his name. But fame is a fickle thing, and before long his star had dimmed. Not wishing to leave the art world behind, and boasting a sizeable Gringotts vault from his years as a successful artist, Ted chose to instead become a supporter and patron of the arts, instead of chasing his once-great stardom. He didn't give up art entirely, but he knows there is little room for his work now. A new generation of artists is emerging, and one he is intent on helping to shape.
Ted is more than a little aloof and antisocial, but in his mind that is a right he has earned. He is not someone that opens up easily, and not one that allows just anyone to be associated with his name. A lot of work has been put in to getting him where he is today, and he will not let anyone jeopardize that. He has worked hard to build his reputation in London and around the world and by now is known worldwide as a master purveyor of the arts. The world is at his feet—the art world, at least, anyway.
That makes it all the more surprising when he sets his sights on Astrid Henio. He won't articulate his reasoning to anyone, but Ted will see something in Astrid that draws his attention. Taken under his wing, Astrid will blossom and flourish into an artist of her own, and with his support behind her she will be able to pursue art full time after graduating from Hogwarts. Encouragement and support will come in unorthodox ways, but slowly Astrid will break through Ted's tough exterior and find in him the mentor she has always wanted and needed, someone who will help her to make the step into the next chapter of her life.
