DAUGHTER OF DUTY: NELINHA'S HALF-SISTER

Nelinha's mother, Ahlai, had been married once before. Suri was a product of that marriage, and she was two when her mother first asked for a divorce from her father. Of course, the divorce was not granted until several years later. There was no large animosity between her parents other than her mother simply no longer loving her father. Suri retained her father's surname after her mother remarried to Eilam Azoulai and Davi and Nelinha were born. Suri is, in everything, the picture-perfect daughter, if only because she is the only one of Ahlai's children that is recognized by the Moshe family as the heir. However, she realizes that she was not the product of true love, and has a sense of sadness over knowing that her half-siblings will mean more to her mother just because of the love their parents share. She's come to Europe because, as a woman in her late thirties and the product of a divorced marriage, it has been impossible to find a husband - no one wants the daughter of an agunah. She's hoping she can start fresh.

Davi was the first born to Ahlai and Eilam Azoulai after they married. While he is the first son of Eilam, he is not recognized by Ahlai's family, the Moshe family, as the male heir. As such, he has very little fortune to his name to inherit. It's upsetting to Davi, to be the prized firstborn son and have nothing to show for it, but he also doesn't know that he can fault his mother for divorcing her first husband to follow her heart - if she hadn't, he'd have never been born in the first place. He's grappling with his anger over the situation, and wants to make a name for himself - and to keep an eye on his troublemaking baby sister, Nelinha, which is why he's come to Europe.
