“ Blood, blood, there had been so much blood.
It was all Blaise could see, even as he landed in the middle of a living room that definitely did not belong to him and immediately stumbled. There had been so much blood, so many screams, so many dead or dying.... The party was supposed to be a bright spot in the war, a night for the Children and Order members to forget the dismal state they found themselves in. But from the very beginning, it had been a trap. They had been lured in like lambs to the slaughter.
Blaise had tried his best to help, but he was no duelist. He was a healer, but most of the people he had tried to help were too far gone to need his healing abilities. It hadn't taken more than a pair of painful jinxes, one that slashed gashes into his back and left blood seeping down his back and the other throwing him against the wall, for Blaise to realize he needed to get out. His head was swimming, but he was still conscious enough to recognize the hole that had been blasted in the wall.
There were more than a few times in Blaise's fight to escape the masquerade that he was sure he was done for. The wards on the estate made it nay impossible to apparate away, and the grounds and house alike were swarming with Kindred and vampires. By the time Blaise made it to what must have been the grounds' boundary and was able to disapparate, his vision was blurring and he could barely stand.
The quiet of the apartment was in stark contrast to the chaos that Blaise had escaped. That, coupled with the way his head pounded and blood poured from the countless wounds he had incurred, was enough to send him tumbling to the rug beneath his feet. The world went black.
"Daddy!"
The high-pitched voice drew Blaise back to consciousness. Where did he know that voice from? Why was there a kid here? Blaise couldn't think straight. All he could see was blood and all he could hear was screaming, the sound of falling bodies, and the laughter of the vampires that had wreaked such havoc.
"Blaise?"
Okay, Blaise definitely knew that voice. But what was Sawyer doing at his apartment? No—this wasn't his apartment. As his eyes fluttered open again, he could tell that clearly. In his panic, Blaise must have apparated to the wrong place. On some level, he knew why Sawyer's apartment had been the place he'd apparated to—his boyfriend, or whatever the hell Sawyer was to him, and Sawyer's son had been the first ones Blaise had thought of when Death ordered that London be burned—but he couldn't process that in that moment, not with the way his head pounded and his vision swam. Even when Sawyer came into view fully, he was blurry and indistinct.
"I think I got blood on your rug," Blaise offered weakly, trying to sit up and letting out a muffled groan as pain shot through him. Blaise Ceaser Laurent★ dandy ♫

Truth be told, Sawyer was a bit of a mess. A lot had fallen onto his plate all at once, not just the divorce and single fatherhood, but the shop was now his after Angel, his mentor, had moved abroad with her wife and children. The learning curve was steep, and without a guiding hand Sawyer felt like they were floundering despite their best efforts. And to top it all off, there was still Del to worry about. Sawyer still felt stupid for having been deceived for so long, felt awfully for how banged up they had been, and still were. But despite it all, Sawyer was determined to give Basil a good first Christmas with just the two of them. He’d closed the shop early on Christmas eve, sending home the staff with tins stuffed with homemade peanut brittle, mince pies, and more, and then turned his attention to his son. They’d watched Christmas movies in their pajamas, made a colorful, glittery paper garland which now wound around their tree, and were midway through icing a verifiable army of gingerbread men when there was a crack and a loud thud from the living room. Sawyer yelped, knocking over the dish of pearl sprinkles he’d been using for gingerbread buttons in his surprise. Before he could tell Basil to stay put, his son had already darted to the source of the commotion. “Daddy!”Any parent could tell by the sound of their child’s voice when there was something wrong. And that particular shriek meant very, very wrong. Trying not to panic, Sawyer grabbed for his wand on the counter, snatching the floury rolling pin by mistake, but didn’t notice as he tore to the living room, expecting a monster or a battle, but instead it was… “Blaise?” Sawyer said, not registering just how wounded the man was until he got closer. He closed the gap hurriedly, panic climbing in his throat like bile. Was that blood? Was that, all, blood? The rolling pin clattered to the ground as Sawyer lowered himself beside Blaise, trying not to hyperventilate. He’d never been good in a crisis, what was he supposed to do? Blaise was the healer, not him… “I think I got blood on your rug,”He sounded dazed. That couldn’t be good. “Basil, get daddy’s wand from the kitchen,” They said to their son, who looked ashen from fright. The boy, however, nodded and sprinted off. “Easy, easy, stay right there, I’ll erm, get you to the hospital? What happened?” Sawyer asked of Blaise, not liking the way he didn’t seem fully present in his eyes. MADE BY VEL OF GS

“ It took far too long for Blaise to process the things around him. Even without the pounding in his head, he was moving at an agonizingly slow pace, his limbs not cooperating as he tried to sit up again. What was wrong with him? He knew he was concussed, probably very, but that didn't explain why he couldn't make his arms move with any kind of speed, or his legs to cooperate and get him back up.
Oh, right. Sawyer was here. Focus, Blaise, focus. Sawyer's face came into focus slowly before going right back out of focus, hovering perpetually between blurry and clear. Blaise didn't think he had hit his head that hard, but now he was starting to rethink that.
“Basil, get daddy’s wand from the kitchen, Easy, easy, stay right there, I’ll erm, get you to the hospital? What happened?”
"No, no, no hospital, 's not safe," Blaise replied, shaking his head. Even in the dazed, concussed state he found himself in, he was at least alert enough to remember the very real danger that would be catching up to them in London at any moment now. They had to leave, had to get somewhere safe. But where the hell was safe anymore? What did safe even mean?
"They're comin', we gotta get out, gotta.... where's my wand..." Blaise fumbled in his pocket, searching for his wand before finally finding it on the floor beside him. Not that he would have been able to heal himself, even if the thought had crossed his mind. His hand was clumsy as he grabbed a hold of it. "We've gotta get out, before they get here." "No, no, no hospital, 's not safe,"Sawyer frowned, his eyebrows knitting together in a state of concern. Why wouldn’t a hospital of all places be safe? Clearly something terrible had happened, based on Blaise’s condition, today was supposed to have been a quiet, easy holiday, but a sinking feeling in Sawyer’s gut told him he wasn’t going to get that anymore. “Erm, okay, no hospital,” Sawyer agreed reluctantly as Basil padded back into the room with his father’s wand, which the boy deposited in his outstretched hand. “Basil, why don’t you go and put on the telly in my room, yeah? Let daddy talk to Mr. Blaise,” Sawyer instructed. Basil seemed reluctant, his own eyebrows knitted together in an identical expression of concern to Sawyer’s, but ultimately relented. It wasn’t often the boy got to watch the television from his father’s bed. "They're comin', we gotta get out, gotta.... where's my wand… We've gotta get out, before they get here."“Before who gets here? Blaise, what’s happening?” Sawyer queried, trying their best to keep the panic out of their tone, “here, hold still.” He was no healer. This was not going to go well. But he couldn’t keep letting Blaise bleed out on his carpet, and at the very least he could do a few simple tricks. “Ennervate,” Sawyer muttered with his wandtip to Blaise’s temple, hoping it might help to clear the cobwebs he was obviously fighting. “What’s going on?” Sawyer reiterated now that Blaise would hopefully be a bit more coherent. He mumbled a few healing spells, trying to close the worst of Blaise’s wounds, but whether due to how his hands trembled or his inexperience, he wasn’t succeeding in much. MADE BY VEL OF GS

“ “Erm, okay, no hospital... Before who gets here? Blaise, what’s happening? here, hold still. Ennervate,”
Vaguely, Blaise registered the light footsteps of Basil padding out of the room and disappearing. That was good—the last thing he wanted was to scare the boy more than he probably already had. The spell cast by Sawyer, while it didn't succeed in eliminating the pounding in Blaise's head entirely, did enough to clear away the worst of the murkiness. He blinked, able to at least put together a few coherent thoughts again.
“What’s going on?”
Blaise peered over Sawyer's shoulder, ensuring Basil wasn't lingering in the other room, hoping to catch the grown-up's conversation. He swallowed hard. Where did he even begin? So much had happened in barely an hour's time, but they had minutes, maybe, before the world came crashing down around them.
"Death," Blaise said at last. Best to start with the obvious, the biggest threat. He could fill in the gaps later, when they were out of the city. "He's won. There was a party, the Order and the Children were all there, and... Sawyer, it was a bloodbath. There were so many Kindred, even more vampires. Not many of us made it out. And now Death's coming for the world, and he's starting here, in London. We need to go, we need to get somewhere safe, before it's too late."
It took an insane amount of effort to force himself into a more upright position, hands still clumsy, lacking their usual finesse. He could think clearly enough, now, to realize that not all of the blood on his clothes belonged to allies he'd tried to help. There was a good bit of his own there, too. With shaking hands he pressed his wandtip to one of the deeper gashes on his arm, mumbling an incantation and watching the skin knit itself back together.
"Go, pack a bag. Just the essentials, clothes and the like. Don't worry about me—I'll be okay," Blaise continued, looking up at Sawyer. They were scared, that much was clearly written across his face. Blaise could only hope he'd bought them enough time to get to safety. Blaise Ceaser Laurent★ dandy ♫

Sawyer’s heart was pounding, his palms were getting sweaty. Whatever had happened, it had to be bad to land Blaise in his living room looking like he did. There was so much blood everywhere, and they weren’t the healer- the injured man in front of them was. What was he supposed to do? Sawyer could only ever manage random minor things most parents picked up on, mending papercuts and skinned knees and oh god, what if Blaise bled out in front of him? Sawyer chewed the inside of his cheek, trying to at least be somewhat reassured that Blaise seemed more with it after the reviving spell. Sawyer couldn’t do a ton, but he could at least manage that. He flicked his wand, bringing a roll of bandages to his outstretched palm. He set to work wrapping the wounds he could see, fortunately Blaise seemed to be thinking clearly enough now to handle the worst of them. “Death,”The single word felt like a block of ice landing in the pit of Sawyer’s stomach. He, like much of the magical community, had been living on edge since the terrifying entity had revealed itself at the World Cup finale the previous summer, wondering what it had been plotting, when it would cause more damage, always looking over his shoulder… “... And now Death's coming for the world, and he's starting here, in London. We need to go, we need to get somewhere safe, before it's too late."Sawyer gulped. What were they supposed to do now? How could he keep his son safe from all this? Merlin, and Del, and their dads, anyone else Sawyer had ever cared about was in mortal peril and he was useless, helpless, a puddle of anxiety so intense that his sweaty hands were shaking. "Go, pack a bag. Just the essentials, clothes and the like. Don't worry about me—I'll be okay,"Yes. Yes. Blaise was right. But what on earth did one pack when they had to flee for their lives? He frowned, unconvinced that Blaise would be okay, but he knew they were on borrowed time. “O-okay, I’ll be right back,” Sawyer stammered, scrambling to their feet. They padded back to the bedroom, pulling out a rucksack from the closet. Sawyer used magic to pack clothes for him and Basil, scrambled to the bathroom and shoved everything from the medicine cabinet into the pack without looking. What about food? Water? Thank Merlin Basil was still distracted by the television… MADE BY VEL OF GS

“ “O-okay, I’ll be right back,”
Blaise's face contorted in pain as soon as Sawyer's back was turned, rushing to their bedroom to pack whatever they could in the little time they had. He'd been able to keep a brave face for their partner, but pain shot through their body with just about every movement. His head pounded, but at least he was thinking more or less clearly now.
It would take a lot of time to sort out all of his cuts, bruises, and deeper lacerations, but Blaise did his best to take care of the worst ones and the ones that were fastest to heal. Before long he was at least not bleeding heavily, wrapping the cuts he didn't have time to heal with the bandages Sawyer had summoned. He was still in a good amount of pain, but it was manageable now. He didn't have time to do much more.
Blaise forced himself to his feet, moving into the kitchen. He grabbed a pair of cloth grocery bags and started loading food from the cabinets into them. He didn't know what would happen or where the three of them would end up, but wherever it was, they would need food. When he was done he left the bags on the living room floor and went to Sawyer's bedroom. It certainly wasn't how he had envisioned himself visiting his partner's bedroom for the first time, but nothing was as he had anticipated it being anymore.
He sunk onto the bed beside Basil, glancing at Sawyer as the other adult flitted around the room in an anxious storm of activity. Basil was focused on the television for the moment, which was good, but it wouldn't last for long, and they needed to get out of town, the sooner the better. "Hey, Basil," Blaise said softly, leaning over to the boy. "Do you have a really cool backpack?" When the boy nodded, Blaise forced a smile and continued. "How about you go pack some of your favorite toys in your backpack and bring them in here? We're going to go on an adventure, and we can't go without your toys, now can we?"
Basil was quick to scurry off, and Blaise forced himself up off the bed and over to Sawyer. He put his hand gently on Sawyer's arm, stopping him for just a second. "Take a deep breath, love," He whispered. Their time was precious, and each passing second put them in more danger, but Blaise forced himself to be calm. "Tell me what you still need to pack. Let me help."
