Don’t stop Trying to find me here Amidst the chaos January 17th 2023 One second Claire had been on top of the world, deciding to have a baby with Gen and going through with the embryo transfer in early December. And the next second, the world had fallen. Not just the wizarding world either, as Death had spared none in its quest to take over. London had fallen in a single night; other cities being bombarded by vampires or other minions the following day. What little news that was coming in now seemed to indicate that this hadn’t been a local event either, but rather one that had spread across the globe. Still, the worst effects seemed to be felt around London. Which was why Claire and Gen had fled. They’d gone north at first, staying a night somewhat outside of Leeds before crossing into Scotland. Claire had liked the highlands, but in the end decided that traveling over to Northern Ireland would get them a little further away from any potential action. The last thing she wanted was for her and Gen to be found by one of the many Kindred or Followers who seemed to have it out for her. No, Claire had to keep Gen safe. Especially if she might be carrying their child. They had been due for an appointment at St. Mungo’s the day following the fated masquerade party to find out if Gen was expecting. But the hospital hadn’t made it through the night and the couple were also well out of town by morning. Now that they were more settled, Claire had made it her mission to find a pregnancy test. She’d thought of traveling back to London and raiding the supplies leftover at St. Mungo’s, but what she’d heard from her coworkers was that the place had essentially burned to ash and now there were scarcely any magical supplies out there. In the absence of the kind of test Claire was accustomed to, she’d settled for finding a muggle one. They were silly- you had to pee on a stick, which seemed odd- but it would do. Gen hadn’t been too keen on Claire leaving their new little home- a muggle cottage that seemed to be abandoned and had gotten a Fidelius charm placed on it the week before- but Claire had convinced her that this was important. If Gen was pregnant, they needed to know as soon as possible in order to start procuring further supplies. Claire had no idea how they’d do it, but she still had contact with the Order, so that was a start. That afternoon she tried multiple types of stores, most shuttered, before finally finding a convenience store with a lone muggle working the register. The place was deadly quiet, making Claire’s voice asking about a pregnancy test even more startling. If the muggle was surprised that someone would be so foolish as to have a baby during the apocalypse, they didn’t show it, instead silently pointing Claire toward the right aisle. She arrived home a few minutes later with two tests in her hands. Claire barged through the door triumphantly, waving the little plastic contraptions in the air as Gen looked up from her seat. ”I got two!” she exclaimed. The timing was even worse than it had been when they’d made the decision, but a little part of her still gleamed with excitement. They might be having a baby! MADE BY VEL OF GS

“ Everything had fallen apart, at a speed that made Gen's head spin to even think about.
Less than two months ago, she and Claire had just decided to have a baby, to have a family of their own. And then, the embryo transfer, just two weeks before that fateful night. For one second, the world had been bright and full of hope, despite the grim state of the war. No matter what happened, the day after the masquerade, Gen and Claire should have known if they were pregnant.
A lot that should have happened didn't, and a lot that shouldn't have happened had. The old world felt like little more than a distant memory, now.
Gen and Claire had settled into a muggle cottage outside of Belfast; it looked to have been abandoned, but it was safe enough, and with Claire's wards, it was soon a near-impenetrable fortress.
It wasn't long after the pair had settled in that Claire suggested they needed a pregnancy test. Gen had been feeling nauseous for a few days, and if she was pregnant, it was better for them to know sooner rather than later. Though Gen had tried to convince Claire to stay, worried about what may happen if she left, Gen knew her wife was right. They needed to know.
Being left alone was nerve-wracking—not because Gen was scared of being alone, or that she was afraid that something would happen to her. She knew that Claire's wards were all but faultless, unbreakable. No, she was worried about Claire. The world outside was a lot more dangerous than it had been a month ago.
Gen resigned herself to waiting; Claire hadn't wanted to risk them both going out, not if Gen was potentially with child. Most of the time Claire was gone was spent pacing back and forth, but Gen had settled onto the couch by the time Claire returned.
”I got two!”
Though Gen was anxious to know whether she was pregnant or not, when Claire at last returned to the little cottage they'd taken refuge in, she couldn't care less about the tests. Seeing that Claire was okay was enough for her, right then. Gen pulled Claire in and let out a sigh of relief. "I'm so glad you're okay," She whispered.
Only then did she step back and take the pregnancy tests, staring down at them as though they would somehow already have the results, ready for her.
"Everything is going to change, after this." It was ridiculous to think that, and Gen knew it—everything had already changed. Hell, the world had ended. Nothing was the same as it used to be. But something about this felt even bigger, even more important. After she took this test, the mystery of whether or not the embryo transfer had taken would be solved. Were they ready for what the answer might mean to them, in this new world, their life after the end of it all? "Are you ready?"

Don’t stop Trying to find me here Amidst the chaos Claire wasn’t sure she’d slept in weeks, despite there being plenty of downtime. If one thing was clear, it was that they wouldn’t be able to rectify this particular apocalypse any time soon. The Order was fractured, just a bunch of people desperately trying to help anyone they could. Most just wanted to escape and Claire could hardly blame them, especially since she’d hidden her little family away too. She just wasn’t sure that anywhere was really far enough from Death’s reach. ”I’m so glad you’re okay.”Gen visibly relaxed upon seeing her walk through the door, giving Claire a little pang in her chest at the knowledge of how stressed she was making her wife. ”I’m careful, I promise,” she said softly, reaching her hand out to rub Gen’s shoulder for a moment. There were no assurances these days, so even Claire’s carefulness couldn’t guarantee that she’d come back home. And she knew that if it were Gen who’d gone out, Claire would’ve been at least as worried to be the one waiting. ”Everything is going to change after this.””I think, technically, it already did,” Claire murmured, a little smile at the corner of her mouth as she tried for a spot of humor even amongst the darkness they faced. Their lives had been flipped on their heads, spinning so out of control that Claire barely recognized the room they were standing in. It was all unfamiliar territory now, but at least she had Gen, her anchor, at her side. ”Are you ready?””Absolutely not,” Claire replied, slipping her hand into Gen’s and giving it a little squeeze. ”But either way, we have to know. You should take them both now, it’ll be a little while before these ones give a result.” How odd it was to think that Gen could be pregnant, when just a little over year before it had been Claire instead. These were different circumstances, and arguably much worse, but Claire still found a part of her hoping that there could be a little one in their lives. A spot of hope. MADE BY VEL OF GS

“ ”I’m careful, I promise... I think, technically, it already did."
Gen chuckled a little at that, if only for Claire's benefit, for it wasn't all that funny, but the gesture was appreciated nonetheless. Bless her wife for trying to find some humor in their situation. The world ending wasn't exactly a treasure trove of humorous moments, but even the most half-hearted approach was some small refuge from the bleakness outside their little safe haven.
”Absolutely not. But either way, we have to know. You should take them both now, it’ll be a little while before these ones give a result.”
"Right, you're right, let's do this." Gen looked down at the tests, taking a deep breath. She knew that they needed to know, knew that the sooner they did, the better, but now that the tests were in her hand, she found herself seized by the fear of knowing the answer. Suspecting she was pregnant was one thing—knowing was another thing entirely.
Taking the tests was the easy part. It was the waiting that was hard, and after just the first moment Gen's patience was wearing thin. How did muggles wait 5 whole minutes for these things every time they thought they might be pregnant? It was driving Gen mad.
"That's five minutes," Gen announced at last, her laser-focus on the clock not flinching as the second hand ticked past the fifth minute. The pregnancy tests lay on the bathroom counter, face down, waiting to be read. Gen reached for one and then stopped, her nerves getting the better of her. "Merlin, I can't do it, you look," She said, covering her face and peeking through her fingers at Claire as her wife reached for the tests. Genevieve Sue fernsby-Alighieri★ dandy ♫
