“ There were frightening few days, now, that was just Claire and Gen.
The combination of Gen's new job, Claire's job, and their combined involvement in the Order, there was frighteningly few times that all of their schedules matched up. They had evenings, of course, and had a standing date night every Saturday, but other than that, they saw each other much less than Gen would prefer.
That was why that Sunday was so important to Gen. She and Claire were spending the day together in Manchester, just the two of them, shopping and getting lunch and enjoying their time together. Claire had a necklace to pick up, a piece of jewelry she'd had sent away to get repaired, but otherwise their options for the day were endless.
The pair strolled the streets of Manchester hand in hand, no particular plan in mind. The city was beautiful, with plenty of shops, and by the time Claire and Gen reached the jewelry shop, their only definite stop that day, Gen's arms were weighed down with shopping bags of a dozen different colors and sizes.
"I'll be right back."
Gen smiled a little and nodded at Claire's words, happy to wait outside while her wife stepped into the jewelry shop. It was a chilly day outside, the first vestiges of winter invading the city and sinking its icy talons into the air, but Gen didn't mind that much. It was a nice feeling after the hot summer they had just had.
It didn't take long for Gen to wonder down the street a few yards, just far enough to peek into the window of the neighboring shop. The display was a collection of baby furniture and clothes, arranged to look like a nursery. On the table closest to the window sat a bright blue pair of baby shoes, no longer than Gen's thumb. It was an adorable sight, and she found herself lingering at the display far longer than she had intended.
Children were a messy prospect, a topic Gen had thought about, over and over again, probably a thousand different times. She loved kids, but would she be a good mother? She didn't exactly have many good parental role models. Besides, what kind of person would bring kids into the world they were living in?
Gen was so caught up in her thoughts that she barely noticed Claire exit the jewelry shop and join her in front of the baby shop. She glanced at Claire and smiled a little before turning back to the shoes. "Aren't they cute?" Genevieve Sue fernsby-Alighieri★ dandy ♫

Don’t stop Trying to find me here Amidst the chaos Claire’s free time with Gen was becoming scarcer by the week. She worked long hours at the hospital, picking up shifts as healers and nurses were killed, kidnapped, or simply chose to quit. And as much as it seemed like society itself might fall apart, Claire railed against the thought by continuing her work with the Order. She’d finally learned about Felicity’s vision, had spoken with Piper about next steps. There were still questions, but a vague path was starting to form. Perhaps their last hope. But today was not about the Order. Perhaps instead it was a laugh in the face of Death and its minions that Claire and Gen went out for a simple shopping trip, escaping the gloom of both Hogsmeade and London to find a cloudy Manchester quite lovely. Claire had heard of a particular jewelry shop in advance and had mentioned it to Gen ahead of time, making sure it was a stop on their tour. There were actually a few things she was planning on getting- something for her sisters and something for Gen. As they approached, Claire gave Gen’s hand a little squeeze, just happy to be in a different place with her wife for the day. She was glad they’d made time for each other on a weekly basis to have date nights, but this was even more exciting because it was outside of their normal routine. ”I’ll be right back,” Claire commented as they came upon the shop doors, giving Gen a little wink as she slipped inside. Claire moved quickly, knowing exactly what she wanted for both parties. For her sisters, Claire wanted simple bracelets, but ones that little charms could hang from. She intended to pick out something to represent each departed Fernsby, little reminders of how they were tied together and of the family they’d lost. The three of them were closer now than ever and Claire wanted to honor that with something nice. For Gen, Claire wasn’t quite so sure. She wanted to surprise her wife with something nice, since all of those shifts at the hospital had earned her some extra galleons in the bank. It felt a little frivolous to spend in this way, but with all the turmoil Claire didn’t dare wait for an anniversary or holiday. Gen deserved to be spoiled every day. And so, when Claire saw the cutest little dove earrings, she bought them on the spot. Doves mated for life and Claire knew she’d love Gen for the rest of her days. When she stepped out, Gen had wandered a few yards away to the front display of a neighboring shop. Smiling and holding two little gift bags, Claire approached her wife. She wrapped her arms neatly around Gen from behind, putting the gift bag with the earrings directly in front of her wife. And as she peered over Gen’s shoulder, Claire saw what Gen had been looking so eagerly at. ”Aren’t they cute?”The sweetest little blue shoes sat on a display, so small they must’ve been made for a child only a few months old. Claire’s breath caught in her throat as a deep longing ran through her. She’d never had the time or space in her life to really contemplate having kids until she’d found herself pregnant with Madeline. The longer she’d carried her daughter, the more she’d wanted her. Losing Maddie had been the hardest thing, but Claire hadn’t lost the feeling of wanting, she’d just been too scared of losing another child to say it out loud. ”They’re so small and precious,” Claire breathed after a long moment. She took Gen’s hand with her free one and spun her wife slowly around to face her. ”Sometimes I still want a little one,” she mused, the confession so quiet it was almost a whisper. MADE BY VEL OF GS

“ Gen found herself letting out a sigh of contentment as Claire wrapped her arms around her waist; she leaned back into her wife, happy to stay like that for the moment. Life was so hectic, and the two of them had so few moments like that together. Gen was more than happy to take advantage of every moment they had. With as chaotic and dangerous as the world was, who knew how many they had left?
”They’re so small and precious. Sometimes I still want a little one.”
Gen giggled as Claire twirled her around, grabbing onto her wife's arm as she came to a stop.
"I hadn't ever pictured myself with kids," Gen admitted quietly. She knew that wasn't news to Claire; they had talked about that when Claire was pregnant, about how Gen had never planned on being a parent. She'd made it pretty clear how she felt about the idea of having children. That was why it had been so heartbreaking and confusing when Claire had lost Madeline, because she had been heartbroken, but at the same time she had been relieved. It was still confusing. "But, when we were talking about having a family, about... about having a little girl that was ours. I guess... I guess I got really used to the idea of having a little one with your eyes."
She hadn't said that out loud before, not even to herself. Saying it out loud, to Claire no less, was just short of terrifying. It was a scary idea, after all, having kids. Merlin knew how her mother and stepfather had messed her up. She didn't want to mess up a kid in the same way they had her.

Don’t stop Trying to find me here Amidst the chaos Gen’s little giggle was infectious and Claire found herself giving a little laugh as well, to lighten the mood of her confession. She didn’t want Gen to ever feel pressure to do anything she wanted, especially because Claire was perfectly happy without kids. Claire hadn’t really wanted them either, until suddenly she had. She was sure they’d be fine without children, but she couldn’t help but think there was room for a little one in their lives. ”I hadn’t ever pictured myself with kids.”Claire nodded slowly, remembering Gen saying this ages ago when Claire had found out about her pregnancy. It had hurt at the time knowing that Gen would prefer they not have the child Claire was carrying. But things had changed through the months as they both started to anticipate Madeline’s arrival. Gen had seemed more excited, helping with the planning. And despite her own grief, Claire now knew that Gen had mourned the baby as well. ”But, when we were talking about having a family, about… about having a little girl that was ours. I guess… I guess I got really used to the idea of having a little one with your eyes.”Claire’s eyes widened as she realized what Gen was saying- that a part of her wife wanted a baby too. It could help them hold onto each other should the worst happen in the war. And would provide joy in their lives that seemed so lacking these days. Claire felt a little jolt go through her, half fear and half excitement as she contemplated what they were about to decide. ”Genevieve Sue Fernsby-Alighieri,” Claire said, her voice soft, but filled with awe. She almost never used Gen’s full name, so it almost made her laugh, but the seriousness of the moment kept her focused. A baby, they could have a baby. ”Are you saying that you might want to have a baby with me?”MADE BY VEL OF GS

“ Gen held her breath as she waited for her wife to reply. There was next to no doubt in her mind that Claire's reaction wouldn't be negative, but what she would say exactly was lost on Gen.
”Genevieve Sue Fernsby-Alighieri. Are you saying that you might want to have a baby with me?”
"Would that be so crazy? I mean, the world, it's... it's so insane right now, and neither of us are exactly laying low and staying out of trouble, and..." Gen did her best not to let her mind spiral, tried to keep it from imagining every negative outcome and bad outcome that could come from it. Claire was an Order second, and they had been targetted more than once for that. Having a baby would add another target to their family, another person that could get hurt because of Claire and Gen's Order involvement. Would either of them be able to live with themselves if something happened to their child because of them? Maybe they ought to wait, until the war was over and whatever terrible things that could happen had already happened.
"But... yeah, I think so," Gen continued at last. She had to focus on the moment. Say what she wanted, and then she and Claire could figure it out from there. It was how they worked best together. "At least, I'd be open to talking about it, if it's something you want."

Don’t stop Trying to find me here Amidst the chaos A tiny pink onesie. That’s what had convinced Claire she could go through with having Madeline, that made her almost convinced that she wanted a child despite years of thinking otherwise. Her daughter’s death had put doubt back in her, made her more stubborn in saying that she was fine just her and Gen. But she wanted, Claire always wanted, even if she never said it aloud. For Gen it had apparently been two blue shoes. ”Would that be so crazy? I mean, the world, it’s… it’s so insane right now, and neither of us are exactly laying low and staying out of trouble, and…”Gen started to ramble, so Claire grabbed both of her wife’s hands and looked her directly in the eyes. Claire didn’t say anything, just waited for Gen’s real response, the one that came after she tried to talk herself out of the things she really wanted. Claire loved Gen and felt like she really knew her now. She’d thought maybe there weren’t more surprises, but this was shaping up to be a surprise. ”But… yeah, I think so. At least, I’d be open to talking about it, if it’s something you want.””You know you can just say yes, right?” Claire teased, a little laugh coming from her as she considered this answer. Gen liked to add all these qualifiers to her statements, project herself less sure even if she knew exactly what she wanted. But Claire could read her well enough, could tell that this was true. ”But yes, Gen, yes I would like to talk more about this with you,” Claire added after a short pause, giving both of Gen’s hands a little squeeze. The idea of another little Maddie, or maybe a baby that looked like Gen instead, soared inside her. The world was insane, but they had each other. ”I want to have a baby with you too.”MADE BY VEL OF GS

“ ”You know you can just say yes, right? But yes, Gen, yes I would like to talk more about this with you. I want to have a baby with you too.”
Claire really knew her too well. Just when Gen was doubting herself, questioning what she wanted and whether what she wanted was worth all of the risks, Claire was there to sweep in and put all her worries to rest. It was frightening, at times, having someone who knew her better than she knew herself, but more than anything it was comforting. No matter what happened, Claire would be by her side, until death did them part. Forever and always.
Gen couldn't help the grin that spread across her lips as she threw her arms around Claire's neck, pulling her wife in close. "I really love you, you know that?" Gen whispered, sniffling and wiping at her eyes. It was cold enough outside that any tears that fell would probably freeze to her cheeks. "You're the best thing in my life, love. I don't know what I'd do without you."
A gust of wind swept down the street, sending a chill down Gen's spine. "Okay, let's get inside somewhere before we both freeze, yeah?" She couldn't resist the urge to grab Claire's hand and give her a little spin before tugging her down the street. There was a cafe on the corner that they had passed earlier, the smell of fresh-baked bread calling them in.
There was a spring in Gen's step as the pair started down the street, as though the weight of the secret Gen hadn't known she'd been holding had been lifted from her by simply admitting she might want to talk about the possibility of wanting a baby of their own.
