your favorite nightmare ❝ It had taken months of careful planning, conning, and deception, but at last, the ruse was up. Or it would be, in a few short moments. Domnall had been carefully crafting each little aspect of his plan. Ariel, the gullible half-werewolf who thought he loved her, was about to be the final piece in the puzzle for all of it. The Kindred had risen from the Death Eaters, courtesy of Noa Raymon. And, to prove his loyalty and hopefully increase his rank within those that were devoted to it, Domnall was going to offer up the mutt as sacrifice to Death.
It wanted the werewolf-descended creatures exterminated, and he would gladly deliver. All that was left was the final piece of the puzzle. Delivering his victim to Death, and then killing her. It would require some finesse, but luckily, Dom’s quick thinking and wit had preserved him at least thus far.
It was a pity, truly, that he wouldn’t ever feel real love. He might have been good at it, in better circumstances. He was good at faking it, certainly. But he was raised without a father, by a mother that tried to “stunt his potential”, as he saw it, by trying to bar his magical education.
And, in the end, he had killed her.
One can’t ever be truly redeemed if they kill their own mother in cold blood.
And he had killed several more women, weak and pathetic just like her. And he’d do it again.
Domnall pulled the door open, slipping into the space that Ariel occupied - and had offered to him after his false confessions. She worked at St. Mungo’s - a risk he had taken, despite his previous murdering of an oblivious intern to poison the wolfsbane stocks in the hospital. It meant that Ariel’s work schedule was perhaps a tad irregular. But he hoped she was home.
“Darling?” He called out, doing a quick scan of the entryway. “Are you here?”

ariel natalia mendlar Ariel had been rather content with her life the last few months. Her job was busy, incredibly busy even, but she never minded so much. The thrill of it was after all exactly why Ariel chose her job as a nurse in the first place. And really, because everything at home was so much calmer, Ariel was able to leave all that chaos behind in the hospital whenever her shift ended and she returned home. One of the things she was grateful for was having a stable relationship to return home to. Someone who had been there the past few months as a constant factor in her life. Even if Domnall and her had surely had their ups and downs. “Darling? Are you here?”When she saw Domnall a couple of days ago, he didn't tell her he would be coming over today. Hence, she was surprised to hear the door open as she was making dinner for herself. She had a nigh shift last night and therefore had had the day off before having to return to St. Mungo's the next morning. Either way, she was happy to see him, like always. "Hey!" She yelled at him from the kitchen in her apartment, stretching her neck to see him from the hallway. "I'm making dinner," she said, cutting into the tomatoes on her wooden board. "Are you hungry?" She asked, looking up at him with a smile pulled around her lips as he walked into the kitchen. "I didn't know you'd be coming over today, but I have more than enough for the both of us either way," she said, gesturing with her knife towards the pasta that was already boiling on the stove.

your favorite nightmare ❝ Every one of his next steps had been carefully constructed. He needed her to trust him, to not have any reason for her to become flighty and risk ruining every little thing he had worked for these torturous months pretending to love her. He needed her to not realize her fate was sealed until it was too late. And he would drain the life from her eyes. It would solidify his position in the Kindred. Hopefully even earn him a little respect with the vampires, though that was only a secondary interest to Domnall. He knew that Death preferred its children to the mortals serving it, but he needed this to work.Hey! Are you hungry? I didn’t know you’d be coming over today, but I have more than enough for the both of us either way. Dom leaned over to kiss her cheek and then her neck, relishing in what he hoped was going to be one of the last times he’d have to touch her so intimately. While Ariel was certainly not terrible to look at, and she had made more than a decent bed partner, something in his stomach still curdled in disgust with every little romantic gesture he had to make. She was unworthy of this sort of affection from him, and soon he’d put it all behind him. Her corpse would free him in ways she could not even imagine.“Actually I was hoping I could surprise you with something first,” he said, wrapping his hand around hers and deftly slipping the knife from her grasp to set it on the counter. The last thing Domnall needed was for Ariel to have a weapon and risk it all.“I’ve been working on it for the past few months,” he added with a honeyed-coated voice, hoping that it was enough to make her oblige him. “We can go and see it and be back before you even realize we were gone.”A blatant lie - but what did Domnall care if the dinner on the stove eventually burnt everything down? When he was finished with his little “surprise”, there would be no corpse to find - and everyone would assume she had perished in the fire.“C’mon sweetheart,” he said, pulling out a scrap of fabric and making to tie it around her eyes. “Put this on.”

ariel natalia mendlar She stopped cutting the tomatoes for a moment as he came over and pressed a kiss against her cheek. A soft sound even passed her lips as he continued and pressed his lips against the skin of her neck. Sometimes it still felt surreal to her that she was in a relationship, that she had someone walking through the door at random times to surprise her, that she had someone to spend time with, without it having to be forced or planned. As he pulled away, she turned towards her cutting board again, eager to get this food done now that he was there.
“Actually I was hoping I could surprise you with something first. I’ve been working on it for the past few months. We can go and see it and be back before you even realize we were gone.”
"A surprise?" She looked at him with raised eyebrows, letting him take the knife from her hand. Her eyes shifted between him and the food on the stove for a moment. The pasta hadn't been on the stove for too long, so she figured she could surely save it and manage to get a meal out of it afterwards. Domnall seemed so excited about the surprise that Ariel didn't have the heart to ask him if they could have dinner first. "Alright," she said, nodding at him, before grabbing her wand and casting a spell to turn off the stove, before putting it into the back pocket of her jeans. "As long as you will stay for dinner afterwards," she said, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
“C’mon sweetheart. Put this on.”
When he pulled out the scrap of fabric, it was save to say she was quite surprised. But, she decided that she trusted him, and allowed him to tie the scrap of fabric to cover her eyes. Immediately, she made sure to grab onto his arm, the fabric being successful in blinding her. "Just know that I will kill you if you drop me," she said, squeezing his arm for a moment.

your favorite nightmare ❝ If he had been a different man, a better man, the optimism and pure, unbridled love and hope in Ariel’s eyes may have been enough to stay his hand. To bury the monster once and for all, to live a life of happiness. Or at least to leave her and not make her a victim of his darkness. But Domnall was not a better man.He was perhaps one of the worst, not only because of his heinous sins, but because he was proud of them. Every corpse he added to the pile was like a badge that he proudly displayed. Ariel’s would be one of many–far too many to count–but perhaps the one he would take the most pride in.She was how he would cement his place in Death’s graces.A surprise?Domnall didn’t dare waver the earnest, hopeful expression from his face as she searched his features for something, then flicked her gaze back towards the assembled food on her counter. For a moment, he wondered–no, he hoped–that she would fight. It would give his bloodlust at least some satisfaction to start early, to completely ruin her before ultimately killing her.Alright. As long as you will stay for dinner afterwards. There would be no dinner, certainly not if he was successful in his endeavor, so he had no problem lying to her as he had done with nearly every breath in this sham of a relationship.“Of course.”Her grip latched on his arm, and with Ariel’s eyes covered, Dom did not have to hide the look of disgust as his head turned to look at the offensive contact. He didn’t disentangle himself, not yet.Just know that I will kill you if you drop me.A snicker, dark and amused, slipped from his lips. “You’ll try,” he retorted, biting back the urge to show her just exactly how wrong she was in her threat. Domnall was never very good with patience, and after these last long, treacherous months playing pretend, the last reserves of his own patience were quickly drying up in these moments. He turned on his heel, pulling them both into the suffocating vacuum of Apparation, landing in a clearing in the middle of the woods.“Incarcerous,” he commanded the moment his feet hit the soil. Ropes sprang from the tip of his wand and wrapped around Ariel, binding her.“But what you’ll realize, darling,” Dom snarled, pulling the mask from her eyes as he continued the sentiment from before he had pulled them away, “is that I will much sooner kill you than you’d ever be able to lay a hand on me.”Not even Domnall knew the exactness of where they were. He’d pulled from the deepest of his resources to find a spot like this. Over the last few weeks, over his supposed work hours, he’d been secretly meeting a friend. She had known exactly where they were, had shown him by Apparating them there, and working with Domnall until he, too, could get there without trouble. All leading up to this moment. This beautiful, sacrificial moment.Domnall pulled his Kindred mask from the waistband of his jeans, slipping it onto his face with a feral smile on his features. He began to roll the sleeves of his shirt until the brand on his forearm, the Dark Mark he had once been so proud to bear, was visible. But he would wait just a moment before he’d summon Death, would wait for the final act of truly killing Ariel. He gave her a rough push, watching her slump into the dirt helplessly. It was satisfying, but only minutely.“Oops.” Domnall’s boot gave her a none-too-gentle nudge before settling atop her, holding her in place. “I dropped you. Gonna try to kill me, mutt?” Another wicked smile spread across his features as he knelt down, leveling his head so that they were close enough to kiss, just as they once had ages and ages ago.A wave of his wand had the ropes disappearing, and Domnall yanked Ariel up by the hair. He pulled her to his chest, her back to him.“Every time I held you like this, I dreamed of this moment,” he crooned cruelly in her ear. “Every lie I told you, every moment I spent with you, I was thinking of this. None of it was real.”It had never been real. Each move was carefully calculated, each expression curated, each word crafted to leave her vulnerable. To make her love him.But he had no love to give her.Domnall pressed the tip of his wand to the mark on his skin, sending a searing pain up his body that he gritted his teeth through. He had known that the summons would be difficult - Death did not often respond to the summons of mortals - but he was determined to prove his worth. The pain receded, and the white spots in his vision started to fade. Ariel came back into sight before him.“You should be honored,” he managed to say in her direction when the fire in his veins had gone out. “Not everyone gets to die in the presence of Death.”

ariel natalia mendlar She could feel the excitement rushing through her body as he apparated them out of her apartment. She could have felt that it was a bit suspicious, he had never done something like this before, but then again, they hadn't been together for that long. Not longer than a year. She felt excited that he had a surprise for her, apparently liked her enough to arrange that for her. As someone who had never been in a serious relationship before, she actually felt flattered, flattered that someone would put in such effort for her. That was the only thing on her mind as they left her apartment.
"Incarcerous"
She wasn't sure where they had landed. It was quiet around them, almost as if they were in the woods somewhere. But all that didn't matter anymore when she heard the spell fall from Domnall's lips. She knew what was coming even before the ropes his her. She knew the spell, though she hadn't used it very often.
“But what you’ll realize, darling, is that I will much sooner kill you than you’d ever be able to lay a hand on me.”
She could hear the way that his voice had changed, and when he pulled the blindfold away, she could see how his eyes had changed. Her own eyes stood confused, not recognising the man in front of her. This wasn't the man who she had spend the last months with, had spend the last months loving. It couldn't be. "Domnall, what...what do you mean?" She stammered, the ropes tightening around her limbs. "What are you doing?"
"Oops, I dropped you. Gonna try to kill me, mutt?”
A cry fell from her lips when he pushed her backwards, her head hitting the cold, hard soil. Flecks of brown mud immediately covered the fiery locks of her hair. It was then that she started to realise that this was really happening. Her boyfriend was really doing this to her. He was going to kill her.
“Every time I held you like this, I dreamed of this moment. Every lie I told you, every moment I spent with you, I was thinking of this. None of it was real.”
Tears started to roll down her cheeks when he picked her up from the ground, the ropes disappearing as he held her against his chest. Or rather, he yanked her up by her hair, evoking another cry from her. She struggled as he held her against his chest, didn't want him to touch her anymore, didn't want to feel his lips against her ear as he spoke to her. She tried to pull herself away, tried to kick him with her feet, step on his toes, but she was restricted of most movements by his strong arms.
“You should be honored. Not everyone gets to die in the presence of Death.”
Ariel's fear grew when he revealed the mark on his arm, using it to summon whoever it was he was summoning. Whoever it was that would be there when she died. She shook her head at his words, furiously, frantically, out of options on how to escape from this faith. "No, no," she kept repeating the word, over and over again. "Please don't do this, please," she begged, "you have to let me go, please," she stammered, still trying to struggle herself free from his hold, her hands and feet trying to break free. "I did nothing to you! Please, Domnall."

your favorite nightmare ❝ Ariel’s shock at Domnall’s betrayal played out on her face, and he relished in it. She’d been stupid, naive, and it was her undoing. Truthfully, he wished that perhaps she had been a little smarter, had maybe realized it sooner. If only to make the hunt more enticing. If only to satisfy the bloodlust that coursed through him.Domnall, what…what do you mean? What are you doing?“You really thought I was a changed man? All it took was a few flimsy lies and a promise of wanting a better life to have you wrapped around my finger. I’m not sure what’s more pathetic,” he jeered, “that you believed me at my word, or that you never tried to believe me evil in the first place. Did you not know my name? The things I’ve done?”In truth, it did wound his pride a little bit, that. Domnall was a man desperate to forge a reputation, to have his own presence instill fear, to be whispered about. And Ariel had either willingly ignored that in favor of a love that never existed, or she had truly never known. No, no. Please don’t do this, please. I did nothing to you! Please, Domnall. Her pleas, her desperation, were a symphony in his ears. An echo of every victim he had slaughtered. But at least she would mean something.“I don’t care what you’ve done or not done to me,” he dismissed, sliding his hand to grip her chin, lacking any care or gentleness. “It’s what you’re going to do for me in your death that means so much more.”
He leaned back and considered her, his stare nothing but malicious and cruel.
“You see, I murdered my own mother. Did you not hear that story? I killed her,” he taunted, “and I’m going to do the same to you. Nothing you can say is going to change that. No one was there to save her, and no one will be here to save you. Who will risk Death - actual Death to save someone so useless? You’re nothing, an abomination. A scourge to be cleansed. I’m simply doing my duty to society.”

some day I won’t have to feel the cold But I do now so I’ll know What it feels like when I feel fire Tavia had been hanging on to a feeling that something was going wrong for some time and it tended to flare up whenever she thought of her new friend, Ariel. The younger girl had let slip, as though it was a secret, that she was dating a strange new man. She’d been keeping him something of a secret, and had later revealed to Tavia that he had some sort of dark past. The circumstances of their meeting seemed too coincidental for her, as if they were contrived rather than by chance. Though she felt guilty for doing so, she’d been following Ariel for a little while now. She’d drop by at the nurse’s apartment when she got the chance, hoping she’d catch set of this mysterious man and be able to put her fears to rest. Sometimes she made excuses to go to St. Mungo’s just to make sure Ariel was still there and everything was fine. Octavia knew she was driving herself crazy with this, but this feeling was so familiar that she couldn’t shake it. And she’d been right about this kind of thing before. She’d perched at the café across the street from Ariel’s most of the day, already confirming that her friend was safely alone inside. She had a decent view of the door and more than ample supply of coffee and pastries. Tavia expected it would be another wasted excursion, so she’d brought along some of her work to draft between glances at the street. But just when she was considering heading home, she saw someone new walking up the street. She had a feeling it was him even before he drifted up to Ariel’s door, a certain purpose in his step. Tavia tensed, quickly rising to pay her bill. She tried to keep her posture as neutral as possible, but as he disappeared inside, she could only hope she wouldn’t be too late. He’d seemed determined, like he might be making some sort of move. Tav crept outside and passed across the street, catching the scents of both of them as she touched the outside of the building. His scent was off, had an unfamiliar tinge to it that made her shiver. Tavia knew she ought to stay outside and wait for them to emerge, but she just couldn’t help herself and she unlocked the door to the building, slowly stepping up the stairwell. There were light voices from Ariel’s apartment for a moment and then a sudden pop, as if they’d disapparated straight from the place. Tavia reached the door, knocked loudly, but got no response. She undid Ariel’s anti-alohomora ward and pushed the door open. The place was empty, the only sign of something suspicious was the dinner still sitting on the stove. Breathing heavily and starting to feel despair creep over her, Octavia paced about the apartment, trying to decide where this asshole might have taken her. Somewhere remote, but it could’ve been anywhere. But it was only another moment before she felt it- someone called for Death and Tavia felt the tiniest of pulls toward her creator. She disapparated. She landed on uneven ground, stumbling slightly as she tried to get her bearings in what appeared to be a forest. She heard voices, a little ways away still, though Tavia immediately scrambled to get closer, her footsteps nearly silent on the dirt beneath her. But when she heard Ariel scream, she broke into a run, quickly reaching the clearing where Domnall was leering over a felled Ariel. ”You see, I murdered my own mother…Who will risk Death- actual Death to save someone so useless? You’re nothing…I’m simply doing my duty to society.”As his tirade continued, Tavia crept toward the side of their clearing, keeping herself hidden behind the trees. Death would be coming, any moment now, so she had to act quickly. But he was not nearly careful enough, monologuing when he ought to be protecting his chosen position. She made her move quickly, shooting out from the trees as she cast a stunning spell and a knockback jinx at the unsuspecting man. ”Get away from her!” she yelled as she closed in on them, using the advantage she’d created to get practically right next to them. She kept her wand trained on Domnall even as she snuck a glance at Ariel. Injured somewhat, but well enough to apparate again. ”You’re the abomination,” Tavia hissed at him, narrowing her eyes as she prepared for a fight. MADE BY VEL OF GS

ariel natalia mendlar “You really thought I was a changed man? All it took was a few flimsy lies and a promise of wanting a better life to have you wrapped around my finger. I’m not sure what’s more pathetic,”
She could feel every hit that her heart took at his words. With every word that he spoke, it was like someone plunged a dagger into her chest. This life that she had had the past months, this relationship. It had all been a lie. He had played her, had taken advantage of her need to always see the best in people. He had been with her all for this purpose. And she had been happy to believe him, happy to believe all the lies he told her. How could she have been so stupid? She had been blind, wanting to find this person that she would share the rest of her life with and without looking, she had believed that would be him.
“I don’t care what you’ve done or not done to me, it’s what you’re going to do for me in your death that means so much more.”
It seemed that the louder she screamed and the harder she fought back, the more he enjoyed it. Still, she couldn't help herself. She couldn't just let him do to her what he wanted to. She couldn't let him break her, offer her to Death as if she was a lamb being sacrificed. And so she struggled, kept on fighting back despite his grip tightening around her, grabbing onto her chin. Due to a lack of strength on her side, and the fact that she couldn't reach the wand in her back pocket, there wasn't much she could do to fight him. But as he faced her, as she saw the look on his face, her fury took over a moment and she spit him in his face. She wasn't going to die so easily.
"Who will risk Death - actual Death to save someone so useless? You’re nothing, an abomination. A scourge to be cleansed. I’m simply doing my duty to society.”
But his next words caused a stream of tears to start rolling down her cheeks. She knew that there was no one who would come to save her. Nobody even knew where she was. Those words were enough to break the last pieces of her heart. "Please, please I'll do anything." She said, cursing herself for begging to this man who wasn't worth any of that.
”Get away from her! You’re the abomination,”
It seemed though, that Domnall had been wrong. There was someone brave enough to face Death, who thought Ariel was worth saving. Her vision blurred from her tears, she saw Octavia appearing right next to them, her wand pointed to Domnall. She felt his surprise in the grip he had on her, using it to her advantage to slip from his grasp, falling to the ground, right at his feet.
