biography Octavia was born just before the turn of the century in a crowding New York City. Her parents had sailed across the sea from Italy, having abandoned their family farm upon learning that Serafina was pregnant. They arrived with enough time to get settled before their first child was born. Octavia was a mobile child, an early crawler and always anxious to be on the move. Her parents called her their little adventurer. Livia followed less than two years after Octavia and the two were thick as thieves as children. Their parents were blissfully unaware of the magical world, but Octavia started showing signs at a very young age. Her sister, not one to be the jealous type, was always impressed by Octavia’s showings of magic, though the two of them kept it all hidden from their parents for quite some time. By the time the Ilvermorny letter arrived, Octavia’s parents had only known about the incidents for a few months. Confused, they let her go to the school, leaving Livia distraught. Their relationship was never quite the same after that, no matter how much Octavia tried to repair it each summer. At school, though, she thrived. Octavia simply loved magic. Why she was sorted into Thunderbird instead of Horned Serpent was something of a mystery, but she threw herself into her studies nonetheless, always eager to learn anything and everything she could. Magic became a part of her soul, it felt like. In her later years at Ilvermorny, the rest of Octavia’s family moved from New York to Boston, trying to start up a pastry shop in the Italian part of town. Octavia couldn’t imagine leaving New York, so she ended up staying behind, living on couches throughout her remaining summers. By the time she graduated, she was essentially homeless. Still, Octavia was in love with New York- the city was always bustling and full of life. She was actually sleeping when it happened- she’d found a spot behind apartment buildings that had a rather comfortable bench. Two vampires happened upon her, both intent on feeding from the young witch. Octavia attempted to fight back, but then were well stronger than her. Unfortunately, they fed a bit too much, leaving her for dead in the yard. It was only due to the mercy of someone living there that she was able to survive at all, as they brought her to a magical hospital nearby. Octavia survived, but her life was forever different. She didn’t much like being a vampire, especially at first. The thirst was insatiable and Octavia had too much to feed on in the city. She went on a wild rampage that ended up lasting months, feeding on practically anyone she came across and disregarding the consequences. A shell of her former self, she only longed for everything she’d lost. It was her first true meltdown, and still the longest to date, only ending when she was finally able to land a stable job at a magical library within the city and swore off human blood. Octavia stayed in New York for many more years, ending up going to university to study more complex forms of magic. Somewhere along the way she got interested in vampirism itself, starting to study the nature of vampires and their turning. Though she would never admit it to another person, what she was really hoping for was a cure for the affliction, though she couldn’t dare hope for it. Traveling sporadically, Octavia didn’t properly move outside of New York until the mid 50s, when she moved to Atlanta to help a friend of hers with his addiction. From there, she moved to Chicago on a whim, wondering if a new city would give her a better outlook on the world. In a way, it did, as she met one of her best friends there as well. But Chicago wouldn’t last too long- the only place Octavia really wanted to be was New York, and she moved back there not long after. In the 70s, she moved to Atlanta to live with Elton, as they ended up marrying to save both of their reputations. Given their sexualities, it had always been a sham marriage, but the muggles and wizards alike were easily fooled by the two of them living together. And since it helped him out of a bad spot, the move was well worth it to Octavia. She stayed the longest she’d been anywhere outside of her home, over a decade in Atlanta, before moving back once more. Octavia never saw the events of 9/11 coming, despite keeping up with muggle news. She was horrified by the attack, masquerading as a firefighter to use her strength to help rescue anyone she could and clean up the rubble. By the time the physical work was completed, she was destroyed. Completely overwhelmed by all that she had seen and her decades of loneliness in this place, Tav traveled first to Boston, and then to city after city, drinking and sleeping around. When she was starting to come down from this particular meltdown, Octavia decided it was time for her to move to London, where Elton was. She found him quickly and then ended up making the move somewhat permanent. Octavia’s settled in nicely over the past two decades, finding a lovely girlfriend, though not a mate, and securing a nice job at the historical society while being able to continue her own research.
