❝ | This was, by far, the last place on Earth that Verona wanted to be... but, as she approached the safehouse, she had to remind herself that she wasn't doing this for her.
The Order had been trying to get in contact with her since the masquerade - or, rather, they'd been trying to get ahold of anyone who had been left alive. Verona had wanted to chuck the Protean-charmed bracelet in the nearest ditch, but there were too many of her loved ones left out in the world. If there was any chance that the Order would have scooped any of them up, she needed to know about it. There had been nothing for weeks... but, now, there was something.
Her siblings were alive - both of them - and they were at the safehouse.
Verona had no plans to stay for any longer than necessary, though she was prepared for the worst. Josie being blind, Beckett being paralyzed... they needed their sister to protect them. So, Verona was prepared to stay for the long haul.
Even if she wasn't going to be happy about it.
Verona pushed through the doors of the safehouse with little fanfare, ignoring everyone inside. She moved through to one of the back areas where the sick and wounded were being kept. Settled in one of the beds was Beckett, being worked on by a healer. Josie sat in the bed beside him, her loyal guide dog at her feet.
"I'm so glad you're all right," Verona said, approaching the bedside. She didn't reach out to either sibling, merely keeping to herself.

Blood. Smoke. Fire. Death. Gods so much death. The future had never looked so bleak, and now it was bleeding into the present, and Josie was seemingly powerless to do a thing about it. Her Inner Eye was an annoyance, a siren perpetually blaring an alarm of doom and disaster. She’d woken the morning of Christmas Eve with a headache so splitting she’d promptly been sick all over herself, a panic had gripped her chest but she couldn’t say why. Clarity hadn’t come until later, when the first of the survivors of the ambush at Ivan’s party had sounded the alarm with the Order. They’d lost. The remaining shambles of the Order worked quickly, Josie and Beckett, frail, broken, unable to fight, had been whisked away to one of the remaining safehouses where they still stayed, waiting for news, for hope, for… anything. Josie hovered nervously near Beckett much of the time, she didn’t need to see him to know how dire things were for her brother. But it was Verona she was more worried about, Josie knew her sister had gone into the ill-fated party, but had she made it out? The question was answered by none other than Verona herself as she swept into the room, her aura whipping about her like the winds of a storm. "I'm so glad you're all right,"Josie sighed heavily, a world-weary sound far older than her years. She stood, taking a few tentative steps toward Verona, fumbling to find her sister’s hand, she gripped it tightly when she did- as if unable to believe she was really there. “I’m glad you’re here,” Josie practically whispered, “are you hurt?”MADE BY VEL OF GS

they make me dream your dreams instead of my own ❝ Reality had blurred into surreality in the wake of Beckett’s injury. Cora Simms had saved his life, and for that, he was forever indebted to her. She’d stayed by his side, comforted him, supported him, and kept him alive in the time it took help to arrive. She’d come with him to the safe house and had stayed until his family arrived. He missed her when he was awake. It wasn’t often; the healers had put him on strong sedatives while he still healed from the werewolf attack that would leave him permanently disfigured. It was a dreamless sleep that the sedatives gave him, and it allowed his mind some peace that his waking consciousness could not have.Paralyzed.The word hurt Beckett nearly as much as his wounds did. He would never walk, never stand, never move his legs again. Not without help, at least. The reality of it had yet to fully hit him, as he was confined to bedrest in the days that followed, but he knew…he knew that when it came time to try to move again, the loss of his legs’ functions would be just as agonizing as the injury that caused it.For now, he was healing. In the Order safe house that Cora had brought him to.He hadn’t called his sisters that night, hadn’t sent for them when he needed help. They were his family - and yet, he had asked for Cora. For the life of him, he could not entirely determine why - so he shrugged off the question when it was asked. She had given him hope. Safety. A sliver of light in a world that was now fully eclipsed. And in his darkest hour, in his greatest struggle, he had needed that. After he had heard about the bloody masquerade, he had stopped hoping to see her face pop into his room, checking up on him. Though his heart ignored that and leapt into his throat anyways as the door opened.Flaming red hair as opposed to blonde curls appeared, and Beckett tried not to feel disappointed as Verona arrived. It was not meant as a slight against his sister, who had undoubtedly come to check on Josie and himself, but the gnawing worry about his rescuer was starting to turn into panic.Beckett would not be able to save her the way she had saved him.He pushed the thoughts of Cora aside, out of his mind, as the eldest joined the younger two siblings. Josie had been a constant at his side since his transfer, and he was grateful for the support she offered.I’m so glad you’re all right.“Relatively speaking,” Beckett replied with a mournful glance at his lower half as he used his arms to push himself upright, taking a moment to adjust. He watched as Josie rose and clumsily found their sister, squeezing her hand.I’m glad you’re here. Are you hurt?“How bad is it out there?” Beckett added, trying to sound casual. Trying not to let the worry about Cora eat him alive.

❝ | Josie rose to her feet clumsily and, while Verona wanted to urge her to sit back down, she knew better than that. The Potter children were stubborn to their core, refusing to take shit or help from anyone. Though Josie was disabled, blinded by hatred and selfishness on the part of the Kindred, she was not incapable. Verona would never dream of forcing her into a box because of her blindness - she was strong and formidable, even without her sight. When Josie's fingers found her hand, Verona adjusted her grip, giving her sister a soft squeeze in return. They were stronger together, though the world wanted nothing more than to rip them apart.Beckett shifted slightly, and Verona didn't move to help him either. His disability was new, but he was just as bullheaded as the rest of them. They'd been dealt a shitty lot in life, and Verona would always help where she could... but, they would always choose to do things on their own first.Their father had taught them that, inadvertently or otherwise."Relatively speaking.""I’m glad you’re here. Are you hurt?""No," Verona replied."How bad is it out there?"Verona frowned. "Bad," she said flatly. She had her opinions about how things were being handled, but knew better than to fly off the handle about the Order in an Order safehouse. She didn't trust them, not anymore... but, she wasn't going to run her mouth in front of her siblings."You're safe here," she told them both - and she believed it, if only partially. They were valuable assets to both sides, but to the Order most of all - beacons of hope in the darkness, for all their resilience had afforded them."People are being brought in frequently. Vampires roam the streets at night - London's been burnt to the ground, and it doesn't seem like there are many non-magical people left. They didn't stand a chance against Death and its army."

“Relatively speaking,”Josie made a pained expression, flickering into and out of existence quickly before she returned to her usual neutral face these days, a slight frown and crease in her forehead. Of course Beckett wasn’t all right in the strictest sense, he was alive and very fortunate to be so, but much like his sister he’d had ability taken from him. How much more were the Potter children going to have to lose? “No,”At least Verona was okay. This time, her mind was keen to remind her, the chilling thought felt like lead in her belly. She chewed on her tongue as Verona described the horrors of the outside world. Josie had Seen bits and pieces, usually grisly demises of people she’d never met, destruction, darkness. But hearing firsthand accounts, especially from someone so close to her, made it all the more real. It felt as if the weight of the world were on her shoulders, she couldn’t fight, she recognized that however begrudgingly, but now she needed her Sight to be a tool for good, for light, rather than forcibly utilized by darkness, and she couldn’t muster anything meaningful. Only terrible things that they already knew. “... They didn't stand a chance against Death and its army."Josie’s frown deepened, unsure of what to say. What even was there? It seemed they’d hit the end of the road, the Order and whatever was left of the Ministry was scrambling. They’d always been a few steps behind Death, but now they’d been left in the dust, searching for pieces to put back together. “What happens now?” Josie finally posed timidly, it was the question weighing on her most heavily- but also the one least likely to have a concrete answer. The frustration at her lack of insight, her fragility, made matters all the worse. At best she might be able to See an attack ahead of time, but at worst she was merely a drain on the Order’s already limited resources. She was alive, and thus far grateful for it, but what was she supposed to do? MADE BY VEL OF GS
