tobias christopher ruiz Tobias knew better than to wish that to wish for more when the world around him had descended into chaos, but still, he wished that they would have had more time. He wished that Melody and him were given more time to figure out what they wanted for their future, before it was decided for them. And he wished that she would have been given more time to get used to her new situation, to her new body and her new self, before any plans for a future were put on hold, because the world had turned into shambles of itself. The only thing that Tobias was happy about was that neither of them had been present at the masquerade.Shortly after, when the chaos broke out, the two of them had decided to go to a safehouse of the Children of the Moon. The neighbourhood they had recently moved to was relatively safe, but they both decided it was better not to take any chances. At least their cottage was still quite intact, something Tobias had taken upon himself to check whenever he got the chance. He supposed that that was the advantage about both his and Melody's status as vampires; they were not as easy to kill as before they were Turned. Apart from the safety that the safehouse offered, it gave them a chance to help those who were not so fortunate. From the moment they had arrived, they had tried to help out wherever they could, Melody admittedly more committed than Tobias most of the time. When he had left that morning, she had still been fast asleep on the sleeping mat next to him. He had left her while he went to check up on their cottage again. Usually, he didn't go inside, but this time he had decided to pick up some stuff for them, for her specifically. When he returned to the safe house, she was still in the same spot, but awake now. "Buenos días, mi cariña," he greeted her, sitting down next to her before pressing his lips to the top of her head. "I brought you something," he said, reaching into the bag that he had put down to the floor, pulling out what he knew to be one of her favourite books. @tumblracity - 383 words

melody hadn’t thought it would truly ever come to this: a war, in all definitions of the word. a vehicle of death disguised by a conflict that few truly wanted, but everyone was forced to experience when it came down to it. that was the nature of war: it could be started by few, but affected all too many. melody thought not of herself when she lamented the situation the world found itself in, but rather, the innocents. those who grew up without magic, like her brother and parents, who had no stakes in this game of blood that the magical community had embroiled itself in. people were dying, now, without the slightest reason as to why. how remarkably unfair, how horribly awful that childrens’ lives would be irreparably damaged by the select few.
melody knew a bit of something about that, herself, so the situation perhaps hit harder because of it. her brother and parents and known nothing of the magic, and yet they were struck down in proximity to its existence. it was happening again. countless families, again, would have to feel the same pain that melody felt as young adult - hell, felt as a grown woman. the thought made her sick most days. when she wasn’t rendered nauseous by the awfulness of it all, she tried to help out in the safehouse. she was no hero, though. she couldn’t muster the courage enough to go fight alongside the older vampires and halfbreeds who were bravely putting their lives on the line.
she sat now, with her head against the wall, and watched people move about the safehouse. she’d come to know some of the people of the children of the moon by now. it was an organization she likely would have joined had she been given the time. it was noble, what they did. she watched as one member moved around, softly talking to people and passing out some more provisions. each time they looked away from someone, melody watched the exhaustion slip onto their face. it was always easier to tell how people were doing when they didn’t think you were looking.
her eyes only broke away when tobias’s gentle voice reached her ears. she gave a quiet smile and tilted her head up a bit to look at him and whisper a soft good morning in return.
“you went back to the cottage?” melody took the book in hand and gently brushed her fingers over the cover. it was an old classic penned in french, with one of the most beautiful covers she had ever laid her eyes upon. as soon as she’d found it in a market a few years prior, it had swiftly become one of her favorite possessions. “thank you, mon amour. perhaps it will give me something to do whilst i find myself useless.” she shifted her body weight against his arm and closed her eyes. “how did it look? not ravaged, i hope.”

tobias christopher ruiz When everything had started, Tobias had wanted nothing more than to take the fastest route to Argentina. It was a lot safer there for both of them, and when news of everything that was happening in England reached his parents, they wanted nothing more than to have their son and his girlfriend stay with them until the war was over. But Tobias only considered it briefly before realising that that wasn't going to happen. Both of them had left a home behind once already. They weren't going to leave behind the home that they had just built together. So, they had stayed and they had helped out wherever they could. Meanwhile, Tobias had continued to visit the cottage when he could, hoping that it remained standing.
“you went back to the cottage? thank you, mon amour. perhaps it will give me something to do whilst i find myself useless.”
He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her against him for a moment as she looked at the book he had brought her. "Come on, you gotta give yourself some credit. You're doing as much as anyone around here." He said, maybe the two of them were not out in the field fighting alongside the other halfbreeds who were with the Children of the Moon, but then again, if this war had started six months ago, neither of them would have even been on this side of everything. Tobias would have been fighting on Death's side. Only thinking about that made him nauseous.
“how did it look? not ravaged, i hope.”
"Apart from a couple of broken windows, it is still intact," Tobias assured her. "I put up some more spells though, just to be certain it will last," he said. The worst nightmare would be if the house was destroyed, looted and burnt to the ground. Like some of the houses in their area. A couple doors down from them, a cottage had been destroyed in between the last time Tobias went to visit and this morning. But, he felt better not telling Melody that. "How is everything around here? Did you get any sleep?" He asked her, ever since she got Turned, he worried about her more than before. Even if he technically didn't really have to worry about whether she ate and slept and rested.
