❝ | The world had ended - or, rather, it had almost ended.Charlie had been minding their own business at home when the chaos had started. Ivan Alucard's party had blown up into something far greater than even the deceptive vampire prick seemed capable of, culminating in the apocalypse. It was rude and unnecessary for her first reaction to have been a simple, smug "I told you so" attitude... but, that gut reaction couldn't have been helped, and it certainly hadn't gone away.Charlie had never liked Ivan, had never trusted him, though they were insistent that it had nothing to do with any sort of prejudice. Now, however, Charlie was more than happy to hate unconditionally.Vampires had caused this - they'd caused so many horrible, awful things. While Charlie knew that there were many that had denounced their maker, that were helping those deemed targets of Death keep themselves safe, Charlie couldn't help the way their nose upturned whenever they were around. Was it fair? Absolutely not.Did that matter? Hell no.Charlie had managed to find their way into a safehouse, though they'd taken to flitting between those that remained standing. She hadn't heard from her family since everything had blown up, and had known that Cora was, at least, in the vicinity of the party. It wasn't until now that there'd been any word of the Simms family - but, when word of a feisty, curly-headed blonde werewolf reached Charlie's ears, they knew it was their sister.Charlie didn't bother being kind, or even asking permission. They found their way through the crowd to the newest batch of those rescued from the outside world. All toughness leaked out of them the moment they saw their sister, cursing at one of the healers helping her."Cora!" Charlie called, rushing forward. She couldn't help the tears that leaked from her eyes as she shoved people aside to get to her sister. "Cora!!" |

Cora still wasn’t sure how she’d gotten out of the masquerade. Hell, she still wasn’t sure how she was still standing. Hanson’s quick thinking and makeshift field first-aid had saved her arm, but now on the other side, in one of the few remaining safehouses, Cora wasn’t sure if it was for the best. The flesh still burned, the barely closed wound prone to breaking open all over again at the slightest provocation. If she’d lost the arm below the elbow maybe it wouldn’t still hurt. But mostly, she was furious about what had happened, about how the Order had lost before they could even put up a fight. Furious, and scared. Hanson had made it out, but word on the rest of her family was scarce. Dad and Clara, of course, were already dead, ghosts couldn’t die again- at least not that Cora was aware of. But her father’s and sister’s spirits were only able to visit the places they’d been while they were still alive, this current safehouse unfortunately not being one of them. Casey, Charlie, and mum were up in the air. Cora was bracing herself for the worst, the only reason she hadn’t gone charging back out for the family she still had left was because of Hanson, who wouldn’t let her put a toe out of line until she got the all-clear from the healers. Frustratingly, Cora had to admit he was right. Between the vampire bite that left her with a missing chunk of flesh, and the cursed leg in Hogsmeade, she’d be more apt to get herself killed than locate her family. But for once, it seemed luck was on her side. “Cora! Cora!!”She yanked her arm back from the healer that had been prodding at it. “Charlie!” Cora called back, her voice hoarse with her exhaustion and emotion. She wrapped her good arm around her sibling, bursting into tears herself, a testament to her relief. Cora seldom cried, often shoving emotions behind a wall of stubborn stoicism, but sight of Charlie had sent that wall crumbling down. MADE BY VEL OF GS

❝ | Charlie's entire existence had been running on adrenaline and rage, especially since the world had come crumbling down around them. There was so much hatred in their heart, directed every which way. She hated Death and the vampires that followed it for daring to think they were better than everyone else. She hated the Order and the Children for not acting sooner, for not solving the problem before it had begun. They could've killed Marianna Lestrange and Vitoria Malvolio before they'd released death, but they were too fucking weak to do what needed to be done.
But now, here they were, their resolve broken at the sight of Cora.
The pair embraced as best as they could, Charlie nearly knocking the air out of herself in the process. The pair wept against each other, a mess of snot and tears and sweat. It was not a pretty sight to those watching, but it was the most beautiful thing to Charlie.
Their sister was alive. That was all they could ask for in the moment - all of the hate and anger melted away for just that moment, giving way to relief and love.
"Thank fuck, oh, Cora," Charlie breathed into their sister's curls.

The weight of everything seemingly hit Cora all at once. She’d been running on the fumes of adrenaline, to fight her way out of the ill-fated party, to get someplace they wouldn’t be actively attacked. Cora was as safe now as she was going to get, and Charlie was here, really here, practically half-holding her up. Cora sniffled against her sibling’s shoulder, feeling suddenly quite small. They’d really lost now. “Thank fuck, oh Cora,”Charlie’s relief served to only make Cora dissolve into tears all over again. The pain, the doom, the exhaustion, were all catching up to her. Now that she was no longer fighting for her life Cora could truly feel it all. And all of it was far more than a girl of eighteen was ready to carry. That, and her arm really fucking hurt still. Vampire venom was caustic, it still burned, the wound refusing to fully close. When Hanson had been attacked so long ago he’d needed to be stitched up the muggle way, but with the gruesome chunk of her flesh still missing- how was it to be sewn? When they finally parted, Cora half-buckled, catching herself on Charlie’s arm before shakily lowering herself the rest of the way to the floor. Her gaze fell to her knees, the blood-spattered formal dress she still wore, torn and singed. Her quiet tears became sobs and she hid her face in her hands. “Charlie, it’s all… fucked,” Cora choked.
