ariel natalia mendlar Ariel should have left England after her first encounter with Death. She was sure that nobody would have blamed her if she decided to emigrate to the other side of the world, someplace warm preferably. However, with the destruction that Death had managed to cause in England during only the last few weeks, Ariel was sure that the whole world would look exactly like London in a matter of mere months. It wouldn't have mattered where she ran to, Death would have found her anyways. At least here in London she could make herself useful. It was what she had tried to do the past weeks. She had ended up in a safe house of the Children of the Moon first, but after only a few days, she felt she was getting restless. She couldn't just sit there and stay hidden when people were dying. And so she had gone to one of the makeshift hospitals she had been able to locate, stationed in an old abandoned townhouse on the outskirts of London, which had managed to largely survive the fires. For many patients, there wasn't a whole lot that they could do, especially not with the lack of supplies, equipments and qualified staff. But they tried their best. The chaos that had burned the outside, was nothing compared to the chaos that had evolved from it. Ariel had always thought that they'd had chaos before, but it was nothing compared to the state of the world right now. There wasn't much time to think about it though, not much time to think about the ones who passed before a Healer or nurse could even get to them. There was barely even time to sleep or eat. Her days were mostly spend by going from patient to patient, doing as much as she could. That day was no different. After checking on a patient who had been there for a week already, she moved on to her next patient, someone who had just been brought in. A young boy with an ugly cut on his upper leg, and a wound on his temple. It was only after she had examined him, listened to his heartbeat, checked his eyesight and asked him for his name - Rohan -, that she turned towards the man who had brought him in. "What happened to him? Did he loose consciousness at any moment?" She asked, only then realising that she knew this man in front of her, her eyes widening slightly in surprise. "Oh, hi," She mumbled, for a second forgetting that she had a patient laying right next to her, something that never ever happened to her before.

january 21st, 2023
zephyrus was not going to let his baby brother die on his watch. their relationship was, by no means, traditional. it was far from, rather – over a decade between them, and it showed in their inability to hold more than a surface-level conversation. though zeph was fond of the kid, he had never really the time nor the energy to figuring out how to be an older brother again. instead, they had operated more as friends. not the sort of friends that went out on the town as zeph so often did, but friends nonetheless.that had all gone to shit the moment that this thing called “death” had attacked the general public. zephyrus immediately had begun to track people down, hoping and praying to whatever deity people still believed in that they were alright. he had found some. he had not the faintest idea where his father was, nor his younger sister. aspen was long gone, hopefully somewhere safe. everyone else he had either spoken to briefly, or had heard through the grapevine that they had been seen alive. he had no choice but to believe the rumors, in spite knowing better than most how often they were wrong. there was little power left but that to hope, and so he clung to those whims harder than he had anything in most his life.this morning, the makeshift safehouse that the family had been staying in had been attacked. without the bolstered protections of the order or children, it had fallen quite quickly. zephyrus had known the sight of blood before, but this was different. a broken nose and blood split of slaughter looked different. it smelled different. it felt different. without thinking, in the midst of the chaos, zephyrus had grabbed onto rohan and apparated out to the spot the family had agreed upon weeks prior. in case of emergency it was to be their safety: in spite of the fact that “safety” at a time like this felt impossible.no one else had shown.zeph waited and waited, with rohan’s weak body in his grasp, until he couldn’t fathom waiting any longer. he was by no means a healer; he was hardly even proficient at the most basic of spells. he had abandoned their spot and sought out one of the centers that had cropped up around london, pleading for help. that’s where they were now, with zephryus slumped on the ground with his fingers tangled in his hair and his little brother flickering in and out of consciousness on his left.his eyes rose to meet the nurse when she spoke up, thrusting him back into this unforgiving reality. though she paused, his mind barely flickered with recognition. he was too tired, and too preoccupied, to even think of what that meant. “our safehouse was attacked. some goddamn vampires or something, i don’t remember,” he mumbled, shoving his fingers through his hair again. “he’s been- well, he’s been doing that. does that count? he never fully passes out, but he’s half-awake. been like that since we apparated.”(C) ELLIE @ GANGNAM STYLE

ariel natalia mendlar This war, this pain, all this chaos, it was horrible, but at least it was something she knew how to deal with. This was exactly what she was trained for as a nurse, and in some ugly, morbid way, Ariel was happy that she got to do this. During the days, she could shut off her mind and work with her patients, her only goal was to take care of them, to save them, to make sure they didn't have to encounter Death in the way that she had. She wouldn't wish that upon her darkest enemies. Well, only on Domnall. Still, she would have rather taken up a hobby to deal with the memories from that night. That would have been better than their entire world into shambles. But at least she could make herself useful, at leasts he felt like she was serving a purpose.
“our safehouse was attacked. some goddamn vampires or something, i don’t remember, he’s been- well, he’s been doing that. does that count? he never fully passes out, but he’s half-awake. been like that since we apparated.”
Though she recognised the man sitting next to her, someone she had thought about a lot the last weeks, she was professional enough to not give their second meeting another thought. At least not when his younger brother was doing so badly. "Yes, it smells like vampires," Ariel said, quickly taking mental note of Rohan's states, like his heartbeat, which was all she could do for the lack of proper equipment. Often, she was quite happy about her heightened senses due to her blood status, but not in a place that smelled so much like death as these makeshift hospitals. "Do you know if any of them bit him?" She asked, her eyes on Rohan as she reached for the cart with supplies next to her, grabbing a pair of scissors to cut open one of the legs of his pants, so that she could further inspect the wound. "You were right to bring him here, he's lost a lot of blood."
The wound on his leg was too big and deep to heal at once, so she would need cast several spells to do so. It was normal something a Healer would do in an operating room, but neither of those things were present at the moment and at least Ariel knew how to do it. But first, she casted a spell that would numb the boy's pain, as well as one against infections.

january 21st, 2023 if zephyrus were in the right mind, he likely would have caught the small indication toward ariel’s halfbreed status. it wasn’t uncommon a sight, especially with the crowd he surrounded himself with. but his mind was far too occupied and cluttered to make sense of most, let alone implication: instead, he dismissed “smells like vampires” as a turn of phrase he’d never heard before and went back to focusing on his brother.
“do you know if any of them bit him?"
zeph was back to pacing again, bouncing from wall to wall like a ping pong ball. “they didn’t. i’m not even entirely convinced he was a direct target, he was kind of just swept up in it all. people just kept running. didn’t look back, didn’t even falter when they trampled over other limbs.” zeph gulped and tried to shove the thought far out of his mind. he still had blood on him from the chaos, blood he was almost entirely sure wasn’t his or rohan’s. that thought alone was enough to make anyone sick: even him.
if he stopped moving, zephyrus thought he may keel over. there was a numb sort of pain gently throbbing from his abdomen. he thought he could recall someone slamming their arm into him. or was it a bat? maybe wood? at the time, he hadn’t bene thinking at all of the attacker – only of his need to get to rohan. now, he couldn’t even properly recall the details.
his eyes snapped back over to the nurse when she continued.
“yeah. yeah. i’ve seen blood before, but that was different. it just kept coming,” he mumbled, mostly to himself. “i tried to time how long he’d remain conscious. when it became longer, i got nervous. corvina mentioned one time he had health issues or something and i-” he hurriedly brushed his fingers through his hair again, ceasing the ramble of self-accusation. “how is he doing?
