CORVUS ALEXANDRE FLINTembers ★ | there's an amount to take, reasons to take more it's no big surprise you turned out this way
For a moment when Corvus awoke, it felt as though someone had stuffed balls of cotton into his ears. There were ambient noises all around him, as if he was in a very busy room, which was bizarre. Even when the others were awake in the common room, they were not nearly so loud. Besides, it was far too late in the day for any of them to still be around. Merlin, what was he even still doing in bed? Judging by how bright the sun was shining through his eyelids and the stiffness in his limbs, it was at least midday. His suspicions were confirmed as he blinked his eyes open and winced at the brightness he was immediately assaulted by. Odd, since the Slytherin dorms were never so sunny.
It was only as his eyes began to adjust that he realized he was not in his bed at all. The ceilings above stretched high into the air, and there was a sterile smell that permeated the very fabric of the sheets he was laying in. It was comfortable, but not quite right. He moved to sit up and assess his surroundings, and was very quickly discouraged from the action by a sharp pain shooting out across his abdomen like a five pointed star.
Oh.
Oh right, the bathroom, the fight, Benny…
It all came back to him in an instant, and for a moment Corvus was confused. Was this the afterlife, then? It was not nearly as nice as he’d anticipated, nor were his ancestors here. Shame, really, it would have been nice to meet the whole Flint clan. It was incredibly disappointing too that the wounds still hurt, that was going to be a bitch to deal with for the rest of eternity, but he supposed he’d learn to cope. It wasn’t so bad when he moved slowly, inching back to lean against the headboard. It was only then that he became cognisant of the odd weight in his hand. When he turned to look at it, he was taken aback to see a hand on his own, attached to an arm which he followed up to see… Benny. A very much asleep Benny, but it was him nonetheless. Well, clearly he wasn’t dead.
“Preece? What the hell happened?”

with great power comes great responsibility.
| What was perhaps most shocking was that Benson had managed to fall asleep in the chair beside Corvus's bed. After everything that had happened, and the fact that the older boy had nearly died because of him had been enough to nearly cause Benny to run for the hills. However, thanks to Professor Steele and her impeccable hearing (and timing), Corvus was alive and Benny was still able to see him. That had been more than enough to inspire him to denounce the stupid feud they'd been having since the age of eleven, and admit how he really felt about the Slytherin... Though that could wait at least until Corvus was out of the infirmary and back walking around amongst the living. He'd been lulled to sleep by these thoughts, by the idea that he would eventually be able to make a confession about his true feelings. Distantly, he felt Corvus stir in the bed, the feeling of his hand being tugged and the shuffling of sheets...
The fact that he could feel the Slytherin stir meant that he should've probably woken up by now and let his hand go, but Benny couldn't bring himself to do so just yet, preferring to hold onto the delusion that Corvus wanted him to do this. That was what was going to get him through this, and as he slowly blinked open his eyes, he knew that he was going to have to answer all of the questions that the other boy undoubtedly had for him.
"You don't remember what happened?" He murmured, brows furrowed when he finally fully opened his eyes to look at Corvus. He wasn't sure if he was being serious or not, or if he just didn't want to remember what had happened... If that were the case, Benny wouldn't blame him for it. "It's... It's a long story." |

CORVUS ALEXANDRE FLINTembers ★ | there's an amount to take, reasons to take more it's no big surprise you turned out this way
“No, I remember what happened. A little hard to forget, don’t you think?” Corvus replied with a snort, though he knew it was perhaps a little unfair to start teasing Benny right away. The poor boy had only just woken up. His hair was a mess, all flat on one side, and there were small crease lines on the skin of his cheek where his face had been pressed against the blankets. Those big brown doe eyes of his eyes were almost half closed still, and it was harder to ignore the twinge in his heart than it was the twinge of the wounds across his ribs. Only an idiot would say that Benny didn’t look absolutely adorable like this, sleepy and a little bit bemused, and Corvus would never be called an idiot.
Perhaps that was why he had not pulled his hand away yet. After all, he had not been the one to take Benny’s hand, clearly that was something the other boy had done on his own volition, perhaps even before he’d fallen asleep. It wasn’t Corvus’s responsibility to take that away. Instead, he’d like to figure out why Benny had made that choice, and if that little investigation came with the added benefit of making the other boy squirm a little, then he wouldn’t complain in the slightest.
“I meant more so, what happened after the fight? I remember getting hit, and I remember bleeding. I think I must have passed out, because I don’t remember coming here,” he frowned, thinking back to the night before. He hoped that Benny had the sensibility to not bring up what had happened just before the fight. He was a Flint man, the last thing he needed was to be questioned over tears. “Also, why are you holding my hand?”

with great power comes great responsibility.
| Almost immediately upon being asked why he was holding Corvus' hand, Benson could feel himself blushing. He wanted to say that he didn't know why, that he must have done it in his sleep, but Benny couldn't lie to Corvus, not after he had nearly killed the Slytherin. He couldn't do that, he refused to do it, and he most certainly didn't want to. Benny looked down at the floor beneath his feet and frowned a little, cheeks still flaming hot as he thought of how to respond, preferring to answer the easier of the two questions first. Tell Corvus how he was still alive, how he had managed to leave that fight with his heart still beating.
"When I realized what I had done, I ran to you. I tried to heal you myself with the spells that I knew, but it wasn't that easy. Nothing worked on that hex, and you were bleeding..." He trailed off, blinking rapidly as he fought to keep his tears at bay. "God, there was so much blood." Benson swallowed thickly and looked up at Corvus, tightening his grip on the older boy's hand. "I screamed. I mean... I... screamed until it hurt, and Professor Steele came in time. She knew the healing spell, she knew what to do."
Truly, Benny felt so guilty; he hadn't meant to hurt Corvus, not like that. All he wanted was to maybe give him a few cuts, scrapes, bruises... He'd nearly killed him instead, and was lucky that he wasn't being expelled from Hogwarts. It would be a miracle if he even made it to Auror training after this stunt. "She said there had been an incident with the spell before, back in the nineties... They were supposed to dispose of the book that had the spell, but it somehow ended up back in the supply closet." He took in a shaky breath, chewing on the inside of his cheek. If the other boy had died, Benson was certain that he wouldn't have been able to live with the guilt that would have come along with it.
He cleared his throat then, moving on from that subject and squeezing his eyes shut as he realized there was the matter of the more awkward question. "I was... Uh... I just wanted to make sure you were still alive?" Benny lied badly, blushing again as he fumbled over his next words and tried to figure out what he wanted to say. "You know, makin' sure you still had a p-pulse?" He continued, ducking his head and looking anywhere but at Corvus, yet still not letting his hand go. |

CORVUS ALEXANDRE FLINTembers ★ | there's an amount to take, reasons to take more it's no big surprise you turned out this way
Corvus did not miss the way that a blush seemed to spread across Benny’s face. All things considered, it seemed absurd in the face of everything that had happened in the past few weeks that something as simple as seeing another boy blush at his touch would be the thing to make him smile, and yet there he was. Despite the scars criss-crossing his chest, the hole in his heart that panged each time he breathed over Lauren’s death and the crushing guilt that weighed on his shoulders, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly as Benny flushed red.
Of course it quickly faded as the younger boy went on to recount the events of the past night. He’d remembered fighting, of course. He recalled hurling spells at Benny and praying that they would hit, or even better, that something that Benny flung would hit him. And when one did finally hit, he remembered feeling pain. After that, there was nothing. He wished he could recall what Benny had done, or the feeling of the blood slowly pouring away from his body. Instead it seemed he had blacked out, and he wasn’t sure whether he should be grateful for it or horrified.
“Well, it’s a good thing that she was nearby. Else I’m sure the school would be writing a very different type of letter home to my parents,” He snorted lightly, and without thinking, he gave Benny’s hand a little squeeze. “And, more importantly, you can tell that I’m still alive now. So, can I ask why you’re still holding my hand?”
