you can't destroy a monster without becoming one ❝ A lot had changed over the months.
Caspian had turned his life around. He joined the Children of the Moon shortly after they had gone public as an alliance, convinced by Quinn Park that he could be helped by the group. And he felt supported in a way he never had before. Not since he’d been attacked. Sometimes, the sheer realization that he was no longer alone was enough to make Cas tear up.
And then there was Val. Caspian wouldn’t go so far as to say that he was falling in love with her, but he felt connected to her. She had helped pull him from some of his ruts and built a man of confidence in its place. He hadn’t truly been in love with anyone since Claire, but around Valentyna, he was slowly beginning to feel like it could be possible for him again. It felt star-crossed. A vampire and a werewolf, born to hate but learning to love.
He’d gone to the party as her date - it was her father hosting the lush event, and so suggesting they go together had felt natural to Caspian at the time. He hovered by her side, waving at some of his new friends that he recognized around the room. Val abandoned him for just a moment, and he saw her father arrive. The pair exchanged a quick word, and she returned with a drink in hand for him. He accepted with a smile, snaking a bold arm around her waist before taking a deep sip from the glass. Something about it stung, burning more than the usual effect of alcohol. A puzzled expression knit his brow, but he didn’t have much time to think about it before everyone’s attention was elsewhere.
Cas cheered with the rest as Ivan commanded the attention of the party. The mood of the room instantly shifted, growing more excited. The werewolf gave Val a squeeze as her father started his speech.
Then, all at once, everything changed.
Chaos erupted, and Ivan himself morphed too, as if at the center of it all.
“Val,” he murmured, pausing for a moment to cough before clutching at her. “What is going on?”He doubled over as a pain in his gut burned through him. “Val, what is happening?”

“ Val had played her part well, and soon she would finally get to reap the reward.
It hadn't been hard, wrapping the brutish wolf around her finger. All she had to do was flash him an innocent smile, make up a story about having seen the error of her ways and joined the Children, and play the role of the embattled vampire trying to do the right thing. He had been putty in her hands. She could have taken him out at any moment, and would have relished in it, but the waiting made it so much better. There would be nothing more divine than the look in his eyes when she was the one to take his pitiful, worthless life. With every passing day, the wolf fell a little more for her, and all she had to do was let him take her out and shower her with affection.
At last, though, the night of the masquerade had arrived. All her hard work was about to pay off. Val chose a white dress with gold accents that hugged her curves and flowed to the ground, with a matching white and gold mask. She liked to think she'd hit her father's theme of Elysium on the nose. She and Caspian entered the party together, mingling with the Order members and Children that had gathered. It was exhilarating, walking among the lambs that had been brought to the slaughter. They had no idea that by the end of the night Val's pure white dress would be drenched in their blood, and the world would be Death's once again.
As the time approached, Val detached herself from Caspian and went to meet her father. The two exchanged a quick word, and a devilish smile spread across Valentyna's expression. Soon, it would be time for them to show their true colors, and take the world back for themselves. She returned to Caspian with a full cup of the poisoned punch, encouraging him to drink it. She wasn't happy until the cup had been emptied.
It made Val's skin crawl when the wolf wrapped an arm around her waist, though she didn't let it reach the surface. She was an expert at painting a lovestruck expression on her face by now. Finally, Ivan stepped onto the stage, his words ringing out across the room.
“So please, dance, drink, and be merry, for tonight- You dine, in hell.”
Chaos erupted almost instantly. Fires erupted at the exits, blocking the lambs' escape. They had allowed themselves to be lured into the slaughterhouse, and now they would meet the end they had always been destined for. Valentyna would have laughed, if it had not been for Caspian suddenly coughing and clutching at her.
Val stepped away from him, watching calmly as he doubled over. Finally.
"Val, What is going on? Val, what is happening?"
"You stupid mutt," Val replied, shirking the gold mask that had covered most of her face through the night. She tossed it to the ground. Every ounce of warmth and affection that had been so plainly written across Valentyna's face had disappeared, and a delighted coldness was left in its place. A smile spread across her lips as her fellow vampires began to make themselves known. "I would have thought even you could see what is happening. Tonight, you will all meet the end you deserve."

you can't destroy a monster without becoming one ❝ It had all been too good to be true.Caspian had wondered, fleetingly, about that exact thing that very morning - but had eagerly shoved the thought aside. It was a desperate attempt at being hopeful, at choosing the good. Allowing himself the happiness he had pushed away for years.Happiness that would never come.As he reached for Val, as he still tried to protect her, despite the growing weight in his limbs, she turned to face him. There was nothing in her face except a cold, murderous type of fury. No trace of the sweet, kind woman he had believed himself to be falling for.You stupid mutt. The words, things he had heard before, struck deeper now. And were chased by the burning fire of the realization.“You knew,” he gasped, backpedaling from her nearly immediately. “You knew.”This was never meant to be a celebration. It was meant to be a cull.I would have thought even you could see what is happening. Tonight, you will all meet the end you deserve.Trying to move his body felt like trying to move through knee-deep mud. His body responded sluggishly, and not even the increased athleticism of his lycanthropy was assisting him. It was fitting, Caspian supposed, that in the moment he needed it the most, the one true time he accepted what he had become, his body had forsaken him. Or, more likely, he had been poisoned. The glass she had given him…something had tasted off. A quick glance around the room only confirmed this, as others faced his same plight.Drugged. Poisoned. Dying. Slaughtered.Something about the sight jarred Cas into motion, spinning wildly away. Outside…outside…outside…he had to get outside. Get away, away, away. He stumbled through the hall that was now filled with blood, flesh, gore, tripping over bodies and swallowing the bile in his throat at the sight of the carnage.Throats missing, limbs severed, corpses with faces frozen in permanent terror.Even as he stumbled through, hoping desperately for some key to survival, he knew it was futile. Knew that his weakened state would be no match for the vampire he had let slip past his defenses.

“ "You knew. You knew."
Oh, that was the good stuff. Merlin, how Val had waited for this moment. She could have gotten drunk off the look in Caspian's eyes as the truth sunk in; the betrayal was beautiful, intoxicating, everything Val had wanted and more.
Caspian scrambled away, the poison slowing him down, making his movements unsteady, off-kilter. Whatever her father had dosed the punch with, it was potent and fast-acting. But even without the poison, he would have had no chance of outrunning the vampiress.
"Where are you going, darling? We're just starting to have some real fun." The sickly-sweet tone Val had perfected in her time wrapping Caspian around her finger didn't carry quite the same charm that it had, not with the devilish look in her red eyes and the evil smile twisting across her lips.
Valentyna was in no rush. By the end of the night, Caspian and so many other mutts will have fallen to her, she knew. There was no need to hurry on the first one, not when it would be so sweet.
A blast ricocheted through the building; an order member, or child of the moon, had managed to blast a hole in the wall. They were scrappier than expected, Val would give them that, but it was still no match for the Followers and Kindred laying waste on their masses. Valentyna followed Caspian as he staggered towards in, at last producing her wand from where she'd tucked it into her dress.
Now, finally, she would have her moment of triumph.
A red curse flew from Val's wand, connecting with Caspian and sending him sprawling, before she tucked it away. From the pocket of her dress, Val produced a silver dagger, the deadly-sharp blade glinting in the light. Sure, the silver wouldn't do anything worse to werewolves than a normal blade, but Val appreciated the poetry. She had picked this one out for this very occasion.
Caspian didn't have the chance to rise before Valentyna was at his side, wrenching him upward by the collar. She was shorter than him, but in his weakened state she was able to pull him off his feet entirely. Their faces were mere inches apart, coming face-to-face one last time.
She wanted to relish this moment, wanted to see the life drain from his eyes.
"I've waited so long for this. I'll cherish every moment of watching the life drain from your eyes." A laugh escaped Val's lips as her dagger at last found its home, buried between two of Caspian's ribs. The pain that bloomed in the werewolf's eyes was everything Valentyna had hoped for, and she made quick work of three more deep punctures before withdrawing the dagger. She let Caspian's body fall to the ground as blood began seeping from his wounds, and she didn't spare him even one other glance.
It was time for her to join the ranks of the others, ready to show the world what Death was truly capable of. Valentyna Dvora Alucard★ dandy ♫
