biography The Van Helsing family is a rather prominent one, in both Pureblood society and the world of halfbreeds and monsters, known to have even some of the most fearsome vampires hiding away, out of fear of what might be done to them if they are caught. Famed vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing was the patriarch of the family, coming from a long line of hunters with a penchant for ages old blood feuds and an incredible knack for killing vampires. He was feared by many, and revered by many more, a reputation which he passed along to his children, as he raised them to be just as fearsome and revered as he was amongst the magical society, they were raised in. Cassian is the firstborn of the Van Helsing clan, a special sort of burden. Somewhere, centuries ago, it was decided that the firstborn of the family must endure the Unbreakable Vow in order to ensure that the family legacy was secured. Through this vow, they were required to keep the Van Helsing name and bestow it upon their family, no matter their gender. They were also required to carry out the family business of hunting down halfbreeds indiscriminately, no matter the cost. Finally, they were required to sire children, through any means necessary - though unions of marriage was preferred, adoptions would be accepted if the firstborn was unable to conceive through natural methods. From birth, the burden of being the one to carry on the family legacy weighed heavily with Cassian. He was unable to escape it, unable to do anything about it. Fear of his father kept him from abandoning the family altogether, as well as his love for his mother and sisters. So, at fourteen, Cassian was subjected to the Unbreakable Vow, and the work of the next infamous Van Helsing halfbreed hunter began. Outside of his work, Cassian maintained decent grades in school, though he began to shut himself off from the world the moment the Vow took hold. He became cold and cynical, carrying out a life that he truly hated. He has since stopped searching for a way to break free of the Vow, having gotten nowhere in his research. As such, Cassian carries out his duties without mercy, but is calculating as he does so, causing true suffering to those he deems deserve it. Everyone else is granted a swift, merciful death.
