stepping forward with grit, anchored in grace i'm talking to his shadow, suspended on dust Devan While Farid seemed to be occupied with getting the meat seasoned and ready to be cooked, Ronan had the opportunity to bring a speaker from the living room into the kitchen. Conversation wasn’t something he was inclined to participate in on a good day, but when it came to New York, there were things that he was not sure he was ready for Farid to know. He wanted to gush about Hartford. To tell Farid about how he made the most delicious food he’d ever tasted, the way that he waited to close the restaurant some nights to make sure Ronan had gotten back safe, how he left his socks strewn like a trail behind him wherever he went and how he was the best thing that had ever happened to him. But to tell Farid those things would mean he’d also have to tell him about the bad. He’d have to explain the night it had all ended, the day he’d ruined it all by believing he could be trusted around something as precious as Hartford. He didn’t want to think about how Farid would look at him when he realized what a monster his little brother really was. He didn’t want to see the horror, the disappointment and disgust that would surely fill his face when he truly understood what had happened. Putting on music was easier, drowning out the memories with the soft sound of jazz playing in the background as he turned to poke at a pan on the stove. He looked up as Farid nudged him, a small smile on his lips that even he didn’t fully believe. For all his internal battles, he’d failed to consider the fact that his older brother was just as stubborn as he was. Getting this to go away would not be a simple solution. “I met someone.” It was the simple answer, the one with the least baggage attached and hopefully would prompt the fewest questions. He didn’t want Farid digging deeper, not right now when they had so much more to discuss about Farid’s own love life. “He was lovely, super sweet and kind, made living there better than I could have ever hoped for. It didn’t work out though, and when it ended I came here. Not much more past that.” TAGS: @ WORDS: |
