biography Elton Johnathan Kingsley was born on a warm February afternoon in Atlanta in 1916 to Maria Kingsley and Deacon Whitt. Their romance had been whirlwind and wild, full of the ups and downs of a relationship between a vampire and a human. The two were deeply in love and, though they knew the risk associated with a half-vampire child, they were excited to start a family together. As their darling son took his first breaths, however, Maria took her last. Bringing a half-vampire into the world was a dangerous task that turned out too arduous for Maria's body, and she died in childbirth. Deacon was destroyed by the loss of his love and, unable to care for his child alone, entrusted the infant to Maria's brother Edmund and his wife. Elton was raised by his aunt and uncle, alongside their three children. He was treated as a son by Edmund and Annabelle Kingsley, his part-vampirism never a factor in how they treated him, no matter how much Edmund might have disagreed with his sister's relationship to Deacon Whitt. Elton's father was a sporadic figure in his life growing up, tending to pop in and out when it suited him. Deacon was happy to be a part of his son's life when it suited him or when things were going well, but the vampire would never be seen during the hard times or when Elton was struggling. When Elton came of age he attended Didactylus Academy for Wizardry alongside his cousins, where he graduated somewhere near the middle of his class. His marks were far from stellar, but he made up for it with a charming personality and the ability to win over anyone. Following graduation from Didactylus, Elton was happy to stay in Atlanta and rotate through jobs, never staying anywhere long. He had all the time in the world to figure out what he wanted to do, after all; there was no rush in figuring it out so soon. It was in December of 1941, months before Elton's twenty-sixth birthday, that the trajectory of his entire life was altered. World War Two had been raging for years by that point, but until the attack on Pearl Harbor, Elton and the United States had remained out of it. The United States' declaration of war on Germany, Japan, and their allies catapulted American society into wartimes, and Elton could not stand idly by and watch it happen. He enlisted in the army three days after Christmas 1941 and left for basic training on new years day 1942. His half-vampirism offered him an advantage in comparison to his fellow soldiers, and by the time his company was shipped out to France in late January, he had climbed to the rank of Corporal. The things Elton experienced in France are still things that, to this day, he refuses to discuss, but one thing is for sure: the Elton that returned from war was not the Elton that had left a year and a half prior. Even now, Elton refuses to talk much about what happened, and all that is really known is that in September of 1943, Elton was gravely injured in the line of duty and given an honorable discharge. A mortal would have surely perished from the injuries he sustained, and it was only Elton's advanced healings that saved his life. He returned to Atlanta with severe physical and psychological scars, an aversion to violence and loud noises, and the desire to run from it all. The late 1940s and much of the 1950s are a blur to Elton. He hadn't been aware that a half-vampire could have a drug addiction, but he was proved wrong in the first few years after returning home. The party scene in the late 40s was a sight to behold, and Elton was in the center of it all, usually drunk and high, travelling from city to city as it suited him. It was in New York in 1947 that he met Octavia Nicoletti, who would one day prove to save his life. It was April of 1956, not that Elton would have been able to tell that. It had been months, probably bordering on a year, since he had been anything close to sober. Cocaine and alcohol was easier to come by than most essentials on the south side of Atlanta, and the parties were legendary. Elton couldn't have counted the number of times he'd ended up in an abandoned warehouse or a stranger's bed after a rager if he'd tried. It was only after a three-week long bender that ended with him in a muggle jail cell, half dead, that Elton reached rock bottom. Octavia moved to Atlanta after that, helping Elton get and stay sober. She moved in with him for a few months while he adjusted to a sober and clear-headed life and helped him find a job and a new apartment. Gone were the days of partying and getting high to escape his demons. For the most part, at least. At times there were no escaping his thoughts and dreams, but even after she had left for Chicago, Tav was never far away. Elton's life took a turn for the better from then, at least for close to two decades. He found a job at the Atlanta branch of MACUSA and had reconnected with his family, after losing touch during his drug days. Life was looking up, but the 1970s were not the most hospitable times for people of his halfbreed status or his sexuality. The former wasn't something he could change, but the whispers about the latter threatened to derail his career and his life. The rumors weren't incorrect, of course, but in America in the 60s and 70s, they were rumors Elton needed to put to bed. Octavia returned to Atlanta to live with Elton in 1972, and a year later they married. For Elton, a gay man, and Octavia, a woman more attracted other women than men, the world was not yet a place they could be their authentic selves, but their marriage (a sham that it was) ensured them at least a bit of safety and security. It would be a handful of decades before they could be who they wanted for the world to see. Elton and Octavia's marriage was a sham, platonic and nothing else, but it fooled the right people, and for a decade they lived happily together. Even after Octavia moved back to New York, they maintained that they were still married and simply "separated for their careers." In 1987, Elton made a move he had never expected. He had applied to Danbury School for Healers in the England on a whim one night, not out of any real drive to attend the school or anything. He had been thinking about going into healing for over a decade by then, and had wanted to see if he could be accepted to the prestigious British institute. To his surprise, he was accepted into the healing program, and in the fall of 1988, Elton moved to Manchester. Elton began working in the hospital wing at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry after graduating from Danbury School, learning under Madam Pomfrey and helping the students of Hogwarts through all of their bumps and scrapes. Elton was there to witness the Second Wizarding War, though remained staunchly on the sidelines. He had fought in a war before, and he had no interest in doing so again. Instead, he simply worked to help Madam Pomfrey and the other nurses at Hogwarts to care for the injured during the Battle of Hogwarts. Following the fall of Voldemort, Elton continued working at Hogwarts. When Madam Pomfrey at last decided to retire in the early 2000s, Elton was the obvious choice to replace her. His move to England had originally been temporary, but with almost two decades having passed, he finally came to the conclusion that his home was now there. But he was happy with that—Atlanta was as haunted as it was home to him, haunted by the memories all he'd been through and all he'd lost there. Elton was there to witness the resurgence of the Death Eaters and their subsequent fall, all of the anti-halfbreed laws being passed, and everything that has led to the war as it is now. Though he promised never to get involved in a war like he had in his youth, Elton could not stand by and watch as his people, halfbreeds just like him, were persecuted and killed for the simple fact that they existed. He was one of the first to join the Children of the Moon and has remained an active member, even as he struggles with his own untreated PTSD and addictions. The war is upon them now, and none are safe from it. RP SAMPLE EXCUSED | miscellaneous WAND INFO: hawthorn wood unicorn hair core nine inches CHARACTER STRENGTHS:
