biography Choi Mi-Young's life was not a happy one. Born to a poor family in a crime riddled city, Mi-Young was a woman focused on her own independence and survival, no matter the cost. Estranged from her family, she made a living for many years as a sex worker, which was how she ended up conceiving Haneul. She did not know who his father was, nor did she particularly care to find out. Her son was hers, and she would do everything she possibly could to make ends meet and ensure he would live a better life than she had. It worked, for a blissful nine years until one night, she went out to meet a client and left her son alone with promises of treats if he behaved for the night. Even after two weeks passed without his mother coming home, Haneul still waited. Two weeks later, his uncle walked into his life, and Haneul never saw his mother again. Do-Yun parented quite differently from his sister. While Mi-Young had been intent on keeping Haneul as separate as possible from her work, Do-Yun trained Haneul from the moment he adopted him to follow in his footsteps as an assassin. At nine years old he would be sent alone into missions, with only minimal support. More often than not upon being discovered, Haneul was left to his own devices to figure out how to escape. His uncle would not always be there to rescue him, after all, it was important to know both how not to get caught and how to get yourself out if you were. Such incidents grew increasingly common, one particularly bad event leading to a major argument between the two when Haneul was sixteen, leading them to part ways not long after. Haneul made a name for himself in the years following his departure from his family. So much so that soon he became not just a competent assassin, but a target for many of his peers. It was one of these instances that ended up being the last time Haneul saw his uncle, when he took a contract to kill him and left an 18 year old Haneul barely breathing with a bullet in his chest. He didn't know if his uncle knew he was still alive when he left, but he has no intentions of tracking him down to find out. Nowadays, Haneul keeps mostly to himself. He keeps his head down, takes contracts he can manage, never commits to relationships and never, ever leaves a trail behind.
