The yin to her ghostly sister's yang, Cora is at first glance a quiet, unassuming young woman. Introverted and withdrawn, she dislikes being the center of attention, and is apt to keep her thoughts to herself until asked for them. These qualities make it hard for her to make friends, but those she does become close with will have a loyal companion for life. Her friends and family have oft dubbed her as "kind, but not nice," Cora will be the first to solve a loved one's problem, but has a tendency to be curt, and to dish out sarcastic quips when warranted. Due to her reluctance to open up, Cora does have quite the habit of surprising people- both with her intelligence and her razor-sharp (albeit incredibly dry) sense of humor. family information
biography Cora, the elder of the Simms twins, was the third born daughter between Amelia and Atticus. From infancy the youngest of the Simms daughters were raised with loving care, experiencing a carefully constructed blend of magic and muggle both- something which was of import to the parents due to their backgrounds. As the twins grew, Clara took quickly to melodramatics, having a mischevious way of both crafting and getting out of trouble. Cora, the milder, quieter of the two took a different route, content to immerse herself in books- both from authors and ones of her own creations. She read anything and everything she could get her hands on. But despite their differences, and petty childhood squabbles, the twins were inseparable, sharing a very close, very deep bond with one another. While Clara developed proclivity for theatre, Cora found herself drawn to an adjacent pursuit, using her own creativity in a different way. She looked up especially to her mother, an author of books, and was amazed when her parents were offered a joint professorship at Hogwarts the year before the Simms twins were to begin their educations. Connected at the hip since birth, Cora and Clara were pulled in separate directions upon arriving at Hogwarts, the sorting hat placing them in differing houses. Bold, outgoing Clara followed in their parents footsteps to Gryffindor, while Cora's wit and creativity sent her to Ravenclaw. At first apprehensive, Cora learned eventually to thrive, rising quickly to the top of her class, and even joining the Quidditch team in her fourth year. Her academic aspirations climbed further after receiving her OWL scores, which granted her the opportunity to begin taking university courses concurrently with her NEWT-level classes. It took a lot of red tape, essays galore, but she was approved use of a time turner in order to accommodate an otherwise inhuman schedule. Always one to work herself to the bone, Cora was in her element, it seemed all her dreams would come true- until March of 2021. Six Gryffindor girls perished when Death was unleashed from the Room of Requirement, and Clara was the first. To say Cora was devastated was an understatement. She and her twin had done everything together, and were supposed to do so much more, only to have it all cruelly torn from them. Her twin, consumed in her bitterness at not being able to accomplish her dreams, became doomed to spend eternity as a ghost- forever sixteen. With Clara's distance from living family, and Cora's grief threatening to consume her, she did all she knew how to, and aggressively threw herself into her studies. The grief never really improved, never really was addressed, but in time became easier for Cora to stifle. But stifling was not meant to last. Mere weeks before Cora was due to graduate from Hogwarts, tragedy struck close to home again. She'd been coaxed from the library for once the day Hogsmeade was attacked- Cora had intended to meet her friend Hanson for the day, but fell instead upon tragedy, finding her father's corpse in the wake of the destruction. Desperate to not lose more of her family, against her better judgement, Cora broke her agreement for the use of her time turner for the first time- using the instrument to go back in attempts to save Atticus from his fate. Cora, however, failed. Having not accounted for battle, of which she'd never experienced, Cora was struck by a curse, and left for dead mere feet away from where her father met his end yet again. But death would not claim a third Simms that day. Come nightfall, Cora was saved and cursed both by her dear friend Hanson. In a bid to save her life, Hanson in wolf form bit her- the rapid healing from her Turning being just enough to get her through the night until help came in the morning. Recovery from the unnamed curse has been slow and arduous, but Cora is bothered more by her unaddressed grief for her sister, and now her father, than her injury or newfound halfbreed status. So she has continued, yet again, the only way she knows how- by throwing herself aggressively into work. Cora has resumed her university studies, but plagued with guilt over leaving Clara behind has also accepted the arithmancy intern position at Hogwarts- hoping one day her sister might not be so distant with her.
