biography Tate Rory Weyland-Knott was born Henry David Weyland-Knott, the youngest son of Jessamine Weyland-Knott and Oliver Knott. Though Oliver had two children from a previous marriage, and Jessamine a child of her own, Tate was to be their only child together. Tate was the apple of their parents' eye from the beginning and doted on by their older siblings. They were forever close with their older brother Archie, separated by only a year. In school Tate was almost immediately sorted into Gryffindor, their brash and reckless personality earning them a spot in the lion's house easily. It was simple for Tate, finding their spot in the house and making friends quickly. Soon enough they had a close-knit group of friends to call their own. Tate joined the quidditch team and dueling club in their second year and quickly found the classes they flourished in and enjoyed. Though they didn't always apply themself or try in any real way, Tate was smart in their own right and could excel when they wanted to. Tate struggled for much of their early adolescence and into their teen years with their own self-image and the way they viewed themself. They hated their short-cropped hair and the way their body looked when they looked at themself in the mirror, and nothing they ever wore or did with their body seemed right. They didn't have the words to describe why they felt the way they did, nor did they want to think about why everything they did felt so wrong. They hated it, and they hated themself. So instead, Tate threw themself into the things they thought they, as a teenage boy, was meant to enjoy. They had been a part of the Gryffndor quidditch team since their second year, but Tate pushed themselves harder and harder into their training and their workouts, building muscles and running more and more to build themself up. They got a job as a stagehand at the Siren's Song Theater, putting themself into more "manly" things and doing their best to like it. They started going out with girls, pushing their boundaries and figuring out just how far they could go before someone stopped them. Men were strong, they were aggressive, and they didn't say no, right? Tate was wrong, and they would make themself right, even if they were unhappy every day because of it. It wasn't until the winter of Tate's sixth year in Hogwarts that they at last came to terms with what they were; it took a night of heavy drinking, a few bad decisions with a friend, and a trip to the hospital wing for Tate to be forced into therapy. It was there that they were made to come to terms with how they were feeling and were able to deal with those feelings in a constructive way, rather than the destructive and harmful way they had. The Attack on Hogsmeade brought an abrupt end to the 2021-2022 school year. Most students went home, including Tate. Tate, who had at last come to terms with their own identity and was ready to tell the world. The first obstacle was their family. Their big brother Archie was the first they came out to, and the rest of the family followed soon after. Their family was nothing but supportive of them, helping them figure out what they liked and what they wanted to be called, though Tate has still not fully yet decided on a name that fits them quite right. Archie helped find a potion that produced near-instant hair growth, giving them long, curly locks that quickly became their pride and joy, and their closet has quickly become a mish-mash of dresses, skirts, button-ups, vests, and a dozen other kinds of clothes as Tate at last allows themself to figure out what they actually want, rather than what they thought was expected of them. As summer progresses and Tate at last has begun to embrace themself, shirking the forced masculinity they had forced themself into and allowing themself a brand of happiness that had been foreign for so long. Therapy has done wonders for Tate in ways that they would never be willing to admit, and they have slowly begun to love themself once more. They will have to return to the real world soon, have to face the friends they've been avoiding and the people at school who don't know the real, true them, but for now Tate is happy to pretend that everything is fine, that the next weeks and months won't be an endless parade of coming outs and re-introductions.
