It was the same mother who arranged her marriage to Andrew Burke, an upperclassman of Lavenia's. The two were wed, but their tumultuous marriage truly began when Lavenia gave birth to their first child, a girl.  Marguerite became a game piece between her mother and father, when she was born as their second and last child. The two girls were often forced to pick sides when they were home, leaving the eldest daughter to distance herself as soon as she was able. During her years at school she was sorted into Ravenclaw, though she never felt quite at home there.  Upon her graduation, she took to traveling before settling back closer to home.
