family information
biography Naisha Mishti Rawal was born the second child and only daughter of Ragini and Haanish Rawal. The Rawals were an extremely traditional Indian family as well as pureblood family, and the future of both Naisha and her older brother Aryan were laid out for them. Naisha was young when the family immigrated to London, and barely remembers the spacious home in India she spent the first five years of her life, but the expectations her parents placed on her translated almost unchanged to their new home in England. Naisha grew up as the apple of her parents’ eye; she was the perfect Indian daughter, the perfect pureblood daughter. She knew what was expected of her and, at least in public, she followed those expectations closely. When her parents put her in piano lessons and made her study Latin, she excelled in both. When they started her in ballet classes at the Magician’s Ballet of London, she worked hard and shined. Naisha was to be the perfect daughter, and she set out to be just that. Ragini and Haanish would expect nothing less than perfection, from either of their children. Naisha was sorted into Slytherin upon her entrance to Hogwarts. It was a house in which she thrived, following in her older brother’s footsteps. Naisha had no trouble finding friends or her place in Slytherin. She flourished in her classes, enjoying the pursuit of knowledge and the joy of success. Everything changed, however, in the summer before Naisha’s third year. Naisha had been asleep when the yelling and slamming doors started, and she reached the hallway just in time to see her parents closing the door, just in time to see her brother’s wide-eyed, scared face on the other side. Naisha was kept from the door, the Rawal’s butler keeping her from letting her brother back inside even as he pounded on the door into the wee hours of the morning. By the time Naisha managed to reach the front door the next morning, Aryan was gone. From then on, things changed. Naisha never found out for sure what caused her brother’s sudden disappearance from her life, only that it was never the same without him. The two had been close, as close as siblings could be. They did everything together, told each other just about everything, and were joined at the hip most days. To lose him, and especially to not know why, was devastating to Naisha. When school came about that fall, Aryan all but avoided her, further twisting the knife in her heart. Despite the loss of her brother and best friend, Naisha persisted in her schoolwork and excelled in her final years at school. She rose to the top of her class, having thrown herself into her schoolwork to ignore her confusion and emotions surrounding her brother, and earned a spot as prefect her fifth year onward. It was a milestone she had talked to her brother about, long ago, but now one she celebrated alone. Hogwarts Graduation opened a whole new world of opportunities for Naisha Rawal. Though she had graduated at the top of her class, it wasn’t immediately obvious to her what she would do with her life. The answer was obvious to her parents, who wanted her to get married and start a family instead of pursuing a career, and for the three and a half years after she graduated, Naisha allowed them to believe she had the same plan. Naisha, however, never had any intention of marrying any of the suitors her parents picked out for her. In her sixth year of Hogwarts, Naisha came to terms with her own sexuality, with the fact that she had spent long hours imagining herself snogging the cute Gryffindor girl in her year and barely gave a second thought to the boys that flirted with her and asked her out. She dated a few boys in her time at school to keep up appearances, but nothing ever happened with them. After graduation she allowed her parents to assume she was waiting for marriage, though the lack of suitors coming through the doors of the Rawal manor was quite intentional on their daughter’s part. Then came time for her plan, the plan Naisha had carefully crafted for years. Her parents never knew what was happening until it was all over. Lulled into a sense of security about their daughter and her intentions, they were none the wiser as Naisha enacted her master plan. In a matter of six months the Rawal fortune that had been promised to her upon her marriage was secured in a trust in her name. She had told her parents it was done to ensure the security of the funds and earn interest on them in the meantime. She was a smart, business-minded young woman, and she had never given them even an inkling that her intentions were impure. Naisha left the Rawal home with all of her belongings packed neatly into a series of suitcases and a vault full of galleons that winter afternoon, and never looked back. She rented a luxurious apartment in Knightsbridge, an upper class neighborhood of London, and began to at last live her life the way she wished. Two and a half years after moving out of her parents’ home,at twenty-one years old, Naisha enrolled in the Auror Training Program, her stellar test scores from school gaining her a place despite the time that had passed. Naisha’s magic had always been a force to be reckoned with, and as an auror she would be able to use it to fight for the good of England and the future she wanted to see. She soared to the top of her training class in no time. It was in her final months of the Auror Training Program that Naisha was assigned to assist on her first case. It was a simple enough case, on the surface, tracking down and arresting a pair of conmen that ran schemes in and out of England. Naisha was excited for the chance to prove herself on an actual case and dove in headfirst. It didn’t take long for her to recognize one of the men involved: it was her brother, Aryan. It had been ten years since Naisha had last seen him, ten years since she had lost her brother and best friend. The discovery that her brother was one of the men she was after, one of the ‘bad guys’ made her question everything she’d learned and been taught about right and wrong. Her brother had always been the best person she knew, and there was no way he could be one of the ‘bad guys.’ It didn’t take long for Naisha to track down Aryan and his partner Hector, though she didn’t tell her superiors when she had. Instead she went on her own, and at last was reunited with her dear brother. It wasn’t long after their reunion that Naisha dropped out of the Auror Training Program, a mere three weeks before she would become a full-fledged auror. Around the same time, most of the case materials on Aryan and Hector mysteriously disappeared from the files, and Naisha slipped away into the night. Naisha may have been four years younger than her brother, but she would always protect him, in whatever way she could. Naisha took a step back and reevaluated her life; the values that she had sworn to uphold had been thrown into disarray, and she was forced to confront what she really wanted to do. She couldn’t uphold the laws that were unjust, laws that made her brother into a criminal. But still, she had a specific set of skills that could be used to make the world around her at least a little bit better. It was then that Naisha turned to private investigating, taking it in stride and soon enough having a steady flow of business, from women fearing their husbands were cheating on them to tracking down runaways and more unsavory things. Naisha focused on rebuilding her relationship with her brother, though shortly after the two reconnected, Naisha ran into an old school friend. Celeste Weasley had been the first girl Naisha ever admitted, even to herself, to liking as more than a friend. The two started dating not long after reconnecting, and have been together since. Their relationship is strong, and marriage has been brought up more than once, but with Naisha and her private investigating career, and Celeste and her field work, the time hasn’t been right quite yet. As war consumes England, Naisha’s work has become more and more dangerous. She has taken it in stride for now, but there will come a day when she can no longer afford to stay out of the war. That fact is something Naisha has attempted to take in stride, but working for whatever side pays her best can only last so long.
