the merchant
The time has come.
With war all but guaranteed, another figure will rise.
The Merchant.
A mortal being, known previously only through whispers and the very few that had interacted with the dealer of information. It thrives in chaos, showing loyalty to no one. The Merchant has contacts everywhere - within the Order of the Phoenix, the Death Eaters, the vampires and mortals loyal to Death, and yes, even the media. Particularly reporters who are desperate enough to enter the black market of information to get a story.
Now, in an era where knowledge is the difference between life and death, The Merchant emerges.
It does not look for fame or power. It does not want recognition or notoriety. Such things jeopardize the intense secrecy that The Merchant has spent years perfecting. It works for itself and itself only.
It does not appear as the same entity to everyone, having plenty of abilities and materials at its disposal to change and hide its true appearance. Sometimes The Merchant is a man, sometimes it is a woman. Sometimes, it is difficult to discern if it is either, and sometimes it truly is neither.
The direct way of contacting The Merchant is not entirely clear. It does not meet in a specific location, and it does not have any mindless little monkeys running around scheduling appointments.
It is rumoured that if you leave a note with nothing but your name in the crevice of an otherwise unremarkable stone along a wall by the Thames, an owl will be sent the following day with a time and place. Day or night does not matter to the Merchant, as it always arrives cloaked, with its features barely discernible. It appears almost from thin air, soundless and lethal in its presence, though it brings no direct threat of harm.
If it is information you offer, you will be valuably compensated. Money has little meaning to The Merchant, as it has so much at its disposal, having accumulated plenty over the years.
If it is information you seek, be prepared to pay. The Merchant will trade secrets, but occasionally, something monetary is accepted.
While The Merchant offers no real thread, take care not to feed it any lies. Those who did have met a fate far worse than Death.
After all, information is power.
