biography Austen was born the youngest of Uriela and Aurelius Raymon and the second son. Beloved by his mother for his red hair, it was obvious even from a young age, that Austen was not as treasured by his father as his brother was. Austen was always a bit of an odd child, more interested in fantasy stories than rough-housing with other boys. He tried desperately to please his father, always hoping that Aurelius would warm up to him. Austen followed two years behind Annabel in school, but was immediately separated from the rest of his family when he was sorted into Ravenclaw. It came as a total shock to him, since he had expected every Raymon would be sorted into Slytherin. Even so, Austen took to his house quickly, feeling comradery with the other students’ desires to learn. He loved school and picked up most classes quite quickly. Despite his father’s attempts to get him to try out for the Quidditch team, Austen was just not interested or good at flying. As he grew and the rest of his family talked almost exclusively about arranged marriages, it became apparent to Austen that he was not interested in girls. They were fine- he had friends who were girls, after all. But the people that made him blush or brought butterflies to his stomach were always boys. He struggled with this for a while, trying to convince himself that it wasn’t true. But eventually, Austen came to the conclusion that he was gay. Unfortunately, he also came to the conclusion that he ought to tell his family about it. During the summer between his fourth and fifth year, Austen often looked for a convenient time to tell the whole group of them. He figured it would be easier if everyone was around. His mother wouldn’t mind, he was sure of that. And then she’d talk his father around too, no problem. Austen was clueless to what was coming for him as he finally piped up at the dinner table that he liked boys. Enraged, Aurelius kicked him out of the house that same day, only his Hogwarts trunk to his name. Austen squeaked by the last week of the summer, mostly surviving off the kindness of strangers. And then once he was back to school, it was easy to pretend that everything was normal. His sister, being in Slytherin, had never talked to him much anyway. Some of the Slytherins seemed to know he had been kicked out, but most of Austen’s friends had no idea. Austen stayed at Hogwarts for Christmas, of course, to the confusion of a few of his classmates. It was over the break that another big change hit him. Austen was attacked just off school grounds on the full moon, having gone wandering around Hogsmeade. He had been lonely without his friends and hadn’t expected there to be any trouble. The werewolf found him easy pickings, only avoiding killing the boy because another stranger intervened. Austen isn’t sure who dropped him off at St. Mungo’s, but they saved his life, as the Healers were able to patch him up. Now a werewolf, Austen is still trying to figure out his new life, growing especially wary of the coming summer.
