biography Things were tumultuous for what would be the Azoulai family long before Nelinha was born. Ahlai had been previously married to a man she had simply fallen out of love with. She had a daughter with the man, Suri, who was two when her mother first asked for a divorce. In Israel, particularly in religious families, which the Moshe and the Yitzchak families were, the divorce must be granted by the rabbinical courts, which meant that Ahlai's husband would have to grant permission for the divorce. He did not. Not the first time, not the second time, not even the seventh. His refusal made Ahlai an agunah in the eyes of halakha, the law of the Torah. She was just determined to get out. Her husband was not abusive, he was not cruel to Ahlai or Suri, but she simply no longer loved him. Ahlai met Eilam about a year after she first requested a divorce from her first husband. Eilam was supportive, kind, but the Azoulai family was not considered to be devout in their religious practices. It drew immense disapproval from the Moshe family, particularly when Ahlai announced that they were in love and that she intended to marry him. Her parents fought her, saying that she was already married, had a family, that the marriage and any children produced from it were not going to be legitimate according to halakha. However, Ahlai's declaration open the eyes of her husband, who finally agreed to a divorce two years after her initial request, only months before the wedding of Eilam and Ahlai. The marriage made Ahlai's parents cut her off, refusing to speak to her and they refused to acknowledge Eilam as her husband. When she was pregnant with Davi, the Moshe family refused to acknowledge him as the family's male heir. Ahlai has not spoken to her parents since weeks before she gave birth to her son. Two years succeeding Davi, Ahlai and Eilam Azoulai conceived and brought into the world a baby girl, Nelinha Mairi, "God is with us, rebellious woman". The name could not have been more fitting. Her mother and father had come to nickname her a "miracle child", for wherever Nelinha went, coincidental circumstances always seemed to follow. Eilam was to travel to England on business, as a Foreign Affairs official in the local magical government, but he delayed his trip because his young little Linha was sick. The man sent in his place was taken captive, brutally tortured, and forced to work alongside Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Eilam considers himself blessed every day that he was not placed in that circumstance and could continue his life with his family. Other little situations like that often occurred in Linha's life, but she hardly thinks she has anything to do with it - and she's probably right. Nelinha attended Almalja for her magical education, and while there, she had a knack for two very distinct things: History and Alchemy. The former of the two was much too boring for her to attempt to make anything of a career out of it, and so she followed the latter very closely. It was a rigorous course to study and pursue, requiring extensive knowledge in potions, transfiguration, philosophy, and the four elements. Alchemy came with a strict set of rules, particularly in school, but Linha didn't play well with rules. She pushed the boundaries, continuing to seek answers and experiment with things that none of her mentors or predecessors dared to try. The Israeli woman travelled to Europe in hopes of learning more about one famed alchemist, Nicholas Flamel. He was a revolutionary, finding a way to essentially brew immortality. Nelinha wanted to learn more about his experiments, try to understand his thought process and apply it to her work in her own driven, slightly wild way. Linha isn't a woman who plays by the expectations of anyone else. She's a wild, free spirit and while she is not religious because of her family's aversion to such a thing given Ahlai's past, she is very spiritual. The thirty-one year old now lives in London as she continues her research on the great alchemist and his work, continuing her practice as an alchemist.
