biography Ivy Writting was born in the beachside town of Brighton to two Muggles who were madly in love. Her earliest memories are of her father picking up her laughing mother and carrying her around the house. Two years after Ivy was born, Darcy followed, and the two were inseparable in their early childhood. When Ivy was about nine, her mother started to get sick. Though she held on for several more years, the incurable illness cast a shadow over the family’s happy life. The Writtings had no notion of the magical world and were perplexed by Ivy’s early showings of magic. At first they were able to disregard the incidents as freak accidents. It wasn’t until the summer before Ivy’s eleventh birthday that a truly inexplicable event occurred. The family had taken a picnic down to the beach and the girls were playing in the water. Ivy dove into the waves and was pulled under by a strong current. Her parents later said she was under for over ten minutes, but she walked out onto the sand as though nothing had happened. She never told them about sitting on the ocean floor, counting the fish that went by, but they knew something was up after that. Ivy was accepted to Hogwarts and went without too much issue. She was sorted into Gryffindor and settled in easily with her classmates, becoming a natural leader early on. In the spring of her first year, Daisy’s disease finally got the best of her and she passed away in a Muggle hospital. The family was markedly different after that, as if the light had been sucked right out of them. Ivy and Darcy’s relationship was never the same and her father became a shadow of himself. Ivy moved out of their house after graduating Hogwarts, moving straight to London. She still sees them around holidays, but isn’t very involved in their lives. Ivy initially interned in the Department of Foreign Affairs, but quickly moved up to the position of Minister’s assistant. She briefly spent time as a hit witch in the Department of Magical Law before being promoted to junior undersecretary. She applied for and was offered the job as head of the Department of Magical Law, but hadn’t accepted the position before tragedy befell her family. Ivy met William Alcott while working at the Ministry. The two were in different departments, but quickly developed a romance. They were married and had two children fairly close in age. Ivy made things work to balance her rising career with the kids, though it was difficult at times. She loved being a mother more than she could’ve imagined and their lives started to revolve around Irene and Samuel. It was sort of an average day when it happened. The whole family knew that something was off about Anna, but had never paid much mind to it until they were shown just how twisted she was. Ivy was restrained with her children and in-laws, forced to watch as William took them out one by one. They had both collapsed to their knees, thinking it was over. But then before Ivy’s eyes, William rose. His eyes glassed over, he ignored her screams, Irene’s pleas. And he killed their children too. Everything after that moment has been a blur for Ivy. She first took a leave of absence from work, but after being pressed, would up quitting. They had already given away the department head job anyway. She spends nearly all of her days at home now, usually alone, going through the motions.
