biography Henryck and Evangelique Nowak were not a match made in heaven; the two met in the small village of Mielic, Poland. Evangelique was the mere age of 15 when Henryck, 35, met her and instantly fell in love. Her charm had nothing to do with it—she did not want to be with him, was not interested in the slightest in the much older man. At the end of the day, however, it did not matter, for what Henryck saw, what Henryck wanted, Henryck got. He took what he wanted, and what Henryck wanted was Evangelique. They were married within the year, the girl too meek to say no to such an intimidating man. She gave birth to her first child a year later, when she was still much a child herself. Evangelique was powerless to her husband, doing whatever he wanted; at first it was for her own survival, although eventually it became for the survival of her children, who soon numbered five: a girl followed the first boy, and then three other sons joined the unhappy family. Their house was frighteningly loud, intersected with terrifying periods of silence. Henryck was controlling and wanted his wife, sons, and daughter to do exactly as he saw fit. There were always screams and yells, and physical violence was a norm. When there was no yelling, it was even scarier, for they all knew it would be only a matter of time before Henryck exploded in a fantastically awful way. Evangelique was powerless to stop him, even if she had wanted to; she had been groomed by him from a young age to be meek and submissive, and he had told her enough times that it was her fault, or their children's fault, that by now she believed him. Albin knew from a young age that he was not the daughter his mother wanted; he knew deep down that he was no girl, would be no woman. He kept it to himself for a long time, until he was a fourth year at Chapaevsk School of Wizarding Arts in Poland. It was then he decided to tell his parents the truth; he had been dressing as he liked at school, but of course had to return to dresses and skirts during holidays. It was Christmas Eve when Albin told them, and it was Christmas Eve when Albin was told to leave and never come back. He was given five minutes to pack, and he left his childhood home with nothing more than a small bag of clothes, his extra winter coat pulled over his regular coat, and was cast into the bleak, snow-covered landscape. How Albin got to London was unclear to him; he flitted this way and that, never able to stay anywhere too long. Eventually he ended up in London's Diagon Alley, sleeping in a deserted alley of the shoppingway. He was cold, starving, and terrified when he met Lauren Allard. She took him to her home, gave him a hot meal, warm bed, and clean clothes. For reasons Albin can still not fathom, she took care of him, She nursed him back to health from a sick, starving boy, even helping him earn his admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
