vampires
something to sink your teeth into
Vampires are a humanoid halfbreed, known for feeding on blood. It is unknown just how this curse came to be. The information below is important if you'd like to play a vampire. This material is valid for all to be aware of, however, given the plot of Diffindo.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- If a vampire bites a human and leaves enough blood for a transformation, the human will be Turned, thus becoming a "child" of the Biter.
- The bond between the Turner and the Turned is exceptionally strong, though it gets weaker the more people the Turner has Turned. This is a very difficult bond to break, with the "child" being subjected to the "parent's" will. This bond can be broken through various disobedient acts (though these are often unsuccessful), the Turner allowing the Turned to leave their union, or the Turner being killed.
- Vampires themselves can form mental links with one another. Each vampire has a "true mate" somewhere in the world. It works similarly to werewolves imprinting, in which the vampire will constantly think about the other person, craving their closeness. Not much is known about this bond, though it's rumored to be even stronger than the Turner-Turnee bond.
- Strong vampires can control two or three Turned with a strong bond, though more is unheard of. The Turner's bond will always be the strongest with the vampire they Turned most recently.
- Sunlight will kill vampires. Special stones, Sun Stones, can be put into jewelry. These stones will give the vampire protection from the sun, but they're rare and rather expensive.
- There is a severe mistrust between vampires and witches/wizards. Discrimination has become easier now that it's legal.
- Crosses, churches, holy water, and other religious artifacts DO NOT repel vampires.
- Garlic causes an allergic reaction to vampires, ranging from rash and headache to death if consumed or inhaled.
- Female vampires can conceive children until their usable eggs run out, somewhere around their 500th year. Conception, however, is difficult.
- It is more difficult for a female vampire to become pregnant by way of a human male, as her eggs are nearly impenetrable to human sperm. If a half-human child is conceived, however, there is a very high chance of miscarriage, due to the female vampire's womb being nearly inhospitable.
- It is difficult for two vampires to reproduce, though it's more likely than a female vampire and a male human. Vampires are typically linked to those who Turned them and were Turned by the same vampire.
- Male vampires can reproduce their whole lives. If a male vampire impregnates a human female, it is very likely that the mother will perish, given the amount of energy the half-vampire fetus will suck from her.
- Vampires are immortal, though the amount that they age physically is dependent on their diet.
- Vampires that mostly feed on humans will age no more than two years physically.
- Vampires that mostly feed on animals will age between five and ten years physically.
- A healthy mix of the two will cause the vampire to physically age between three and five years.
- Vampires that mostly feed on humans will age no more than two years physically.
- Vampires that hunt mostly humans will have bright red eyes.
- Vampires that hunt mostly animals will have bright green eyes.
- Vampires that hunt a mixture of the two will have an eye color that reflects what they hunt most. The eye color can be covered up by Metamorphmagus abilities or appearance changing charms/potions.
- Vampires are much stronger and faster than humans, with a high tolerance for pain and an exceptionally fast recovery rate for injuries.
- vampires' venom is a silvery substance, and fills their veins, replacing their blood once they are turned.
- vampires' fangs are not always present - they will grow in the presence of blood and when the vampire is especially hungry.
- werewolves and vampires have suffered from an age-long feud, and have gone to war with one another in the past. there is a treaty in place to keep from all-out war again, but violence between the two is still common. vampires will often smell of decaying flesh to werewolves, and they're biologically predisposed to react negatively to one another.
- vampires are notoriously difficult to kill. while the Killing curse does hurt them, it will not kill them. vampires can be killed by the following methods:
- Direct sun exposure for any prolonged period
- Consumption of garlic
- Dismemberment, most often in the form of head removal
- Burning
