always forward, never back ❝ Of all the people who could have gotten themselves into such a pickle, it was unsurprising to Nelinha that she had done it. Not as she stared at the positive test sitting in the basin of the sink and realized she had utterly no clue who had created it with her. There were two options, and she was grateful that she had at least narrowed it down that far. Arcturus Lestrange and Odysseus Rookwood. She’d hooked up with both of them, before she and Odysseus had become something a little more…not quite serious, but less casual, at least. She liked him, much to the question of everyone. But now she was pregnant. And she didn’t know if it was Arcturus or Odysseus who fathered her child. It threatened to topple the beautiful, wild thing she had built for herself. But, she had realized, she loved her baby instantly for that. Like their mother, this child was clearly wild and doing things their own way in their own time. In that instance of love, Nelinha realized she really only had one choice. She had to tell them both and hope that they understood. Because she wanted this baby, even if she hadn’t planned for it. Linha chose to tell Arcturus first. They hadn’t slept together beyond the one night that made everything confusing, but had parted as friends. Telling him, at least, would be easier than telling Odysseus. She was a chicken for doing it this way, for putting off the hard part, but with the turmoil that now ensconced the world, especially as it shrouded Ody in particular, she needed a breath to collect herself. To figure it out. Nelinha knocked on the door to Arcturus’s home, rocking up and down on her toes and letting the breeze dance between her fingertips.

“ After almost dying in the front hall, being back at the Lestrange Manor had Arcturus on edge.
He had doubled, maybe tripled, the wards on the manor, but he wasn't sure how much it put him at ease. There had been plenty of wards on the manor the night he had been attacked, and they hadn't been enough. Would he ever feel safe at home again?
That night he had been busying himself in the study; for so long the room had been closed-off, door locked. It had been a memorial to his father, almost, a room none other than Rabastan had been allowed in and a room his mother had kept exactly as he'd left it, in case he ever returned to them.
Arcturus had been spending the last few weeks at last clearing it out, burning the pages upon pages of pureblood swill his father had kept or even written, ramblings about mudbloods and blood traitors and the Dark Lord. It was therapeutic, almost, like he was burning his father's memory along with the pages and books. Soon the house would be his, fully his, and he could move on from his father and his name.
The knock on the front door made Arcturus jump out of his skin, even though a bright light had flashed when the person had first stepped onto the property. The house elves were under strict orders to not answer the door, or let anyone in on the off-chance they did, so it was up to Arcturus to find out who was at the door.
He rose slowly and scrambled for his wand, holding it tight as he made his way downstairs and to the foyer. A glance through the peephole put Arcturus at ease, at least a little; what was Nelinha doing here?
Knowing who was at the door was a good thing, but Arcturus was more cautious than he had been. The wards had told him there was only one person, but he didn't trust that. Not after last time. He eased the door open slowly, not more than five or six inches.
"Nelinha?" He wouldn't have put it past Ransom and Sonia Flint to come back, to finish the job, this time wearing the face of someone he trusted. "What're you doing here?"
