❝ | Archie was alive, and finally healing. The extent of his injuries were greater than he'd initially realized, mostly due to the amount of blood loss he'd endured. Lenora and her parents had taken him in without question, and had been his protectors for the month since the attack. They'd kept moving as much as they could though, with the state of the world and with Archie's injuries, they hadn't been able to be mobile for too long.He was grateful for them, this new family of his. He and Lenora had spoken at length about their future together, though it seemed so trivial given that the future might never come. Still, it had made them feel better, to speak of things that might never happen. The ring he would never be able to buy her, the wedding they wouldn't be able to have, the kids that could never be... not if the state of the world continued to decline the way that it was.Archie had never assumed to know what apocalypse would look like, nor that he would ever see it in his lifetime. Even now, the word made him cringe - was it really the end of everything? But, as word continued to roll in from every which way that vampires patrolled the streets at night, that Death was leveling towns, that the Muggle population was essentially all wiped out... Archie couldn't help but face the reality that maybe this really was the end.Once he felt well enough to move around, Archie insisted that Lenora and her family find refuge with the Order of the Phoenix - or what was left of it, anyway. They'd agreed, and they'd made their way to one of the scattered safehouses left. It didn't take him long to learn that some of his family was also present - namely, a very pregnant, very alone Ava.Archie had parted from the Moreau's once things were calmer, and quickly located his half-sister. She was far bigger than the last time he'd seen her, and she looked like she was ready to give up. Bags under her eyes, body looking weak despite the swell of her pregnant belly. He approached her carefully, slowly, so as not to startle her."Ava?" he murmured. "Godric, it's so good to see you." |

“ How had so much gone wrong, so fast?
Ava didn't find out what had happened until long after the fact, in second-and third=hand accounts of the horrors that had occurred at some party thrown by a former Child of the Moon turned traitor. Or maybe he had always been a traitor; the details were murky, and everyone Ava talked to seemed to have a different recount of the story.
The basics were clear, though: Ivan Alucard had led them likes to lambs to a slaughter, and Death had declared himself and his children victors in this war. The world had been destroyed, not even the muggles safe from the destruction.
Ava had sought refuge with the Children of the Moon, stuck in one of what was left of their safe houses. She tried to help where she could, but halfway through her final trimester she wasn't much more help than some of the children running around. She kept moving as best she could, helping in the kitchen and tending to some of the injured, but she was limited, and it infuriated her.
Mostly, though, she was numb. Xander was gone, and the world had ended, and in a month and change, she would be a mother. What kind of world was she bringing her son into? It was bad enough when she was bringing a kid into a world at war, but now? The world was effectively over. How the hell was she going to keep him safe and alive, let alone anything else?
Ava wasn't much use to the Children, not in her state, so most of what she did was just waiting. For what, she wasn't sure, but she was too big to do much else. That day she had kept herself busy helping in the kitchen, and by afternoon had settled into an armchair by the safehouse's window. She let out a yawn; she hadn't slept much since everything imploded, and combined with the baby pushing on her bladder, she was in general just uncomfortable and unhappy. That seemed to be the common sentiment for everyone, anymore.
Ava turned at the sound of someone approaching, eyes going wide.
"Ava? Godric, it's so good to see you."
"Archie, thank god." Ava hadn't known she was holding a breath, waiting for news to come of another person she cared about dead, until Archie was before her, and she could let it out. It was a mounting struggle every day to stand once she was seated, but she forced herself up nonetheless and threw her arms around Archie, pulling him close. "I'm so glad you're okay. I was so worried."

❝ | Archie had very little knowledge about each member of his family, their whereabouts and wellbeing unknown to him. He did his best to keep a hopeful spirit, knowing that sliding into a nervous funk would do nothing for him. He could only control what he could control - and it was far easier not to worry himself about things he had no information on.He worried for his parents, for Tate, for his other halfbreed siblings... but, he worried for the people he didn't know too, and knew that he could at least help those people outright. He hadn't realized how much he'd learned in his internship, despite not having been at it for long, and was trying to see the various injuries that he was seeing as learning opportunities. If he could help a few people, that was all right by him.But now, he had some knowledge - Ava was alive, and she was here, right in front of him. Ava stood and embraced him tightly, a gesture that he returned with as much force and love as he could muster without hurting her or the baby growing inside of her."Archie, thank god. I'm so glad you're okay. I was so worried.""Almost wasn't okay, I'll be honest. I barely made it out of the party," he admitted, stepping away from her. He kept his hands on her shoulders, looking her over."You're all right? And Helix, he's okay too?" he asked, eyes flickering back up to study her face. She looked tired... but, she was alive, and he hadn't lost the baby. That was all he could hope for, he supposed. |
