biography Wyatt Atlas Miller was born to Annalise Miller, a muggle, and Douglass Centre, a halfblood wizard, Their romance was whirlwind and fantastical and lasted but a few months. They were never married. His mother had no idea what his father was until after she had gotten pregnant and he had left. Nothing was left but a hastily-scribbled note and a broken heart as Douglass Centre ran off to take a job at the Ministry. Knowing what her child's father was, and knowing her son would likely be the same thing, she abandoned Wyatt just a few days after he was born at Johnson's Home for Boys. She was never heard from again, nor has Wyatt ever met his father. The only thing that was left with the infant was a ratty blanket and a piece of paper with his name written on it. Johnson's Home for Boys was small and not a good place for a wizard to grow up in. Wyatt grew up in a cramped bedroom that he shared with four other boys. He never had enough to eat, and his clothes were always second- or third-hand. He was bullied often, his wiry stature and sunken eyes giving way to almost nonstop teasing. As he got older, his magic began to show itself. It started with a boy who had pushed him out of the line in the mess hall ending up in the infirmary, boils erupting all over his body. Then, when one of the teachers attempted to punish him by smacking his hand with a ruler, the teacher found his own hand flaring up with pain. Wyatt never understood what was happening, nor did he want to hurt anyone. News quickly spread of the weird things that happened around the then eight-year-old. Wyatt was moved into a tiny room on the third and top floor of the orphanage, a former broom closet with just enough room for a bed and a dresser, following the strange events that had occurred. The teachers and caretakers at the Home believed it would keep the others safe from Wyatt, although they never actually told him that. Everyone began to steer clear of him, and while that meant he did not get bullied anymore, it also meant that Wyatt spent the next three years completely isolated. No one would sit near him at meals, and he studied and did his chores alone. He was intensely lonely, even more so than he had been before. On his eleventh birthday, the former Hogwarts headmaster Joseph Whittingham visited Johnson's Home for Boys. He explained to Wyatt what he was, what Hogwarts was, and what the next years would hold for him. He was forced to wait until the next August before stumbling his way through Diagon Alley, having scrounged enough money from odd jobs to buy the necessary school supplies; his wand, books, robes, and cauldron were all second-hand, and he never seemed to have enough of the basic necessities, but Wyatt arrived at King's Cross Station on September first alone. He found Platform Nine and Three-Quarters pretty much on accident, sitting alone on the train to Hogwarts. At Hogwarts Wyatt was sorted into Hufflepuff after the Sorting Hat had rested on his head for just a few moments, his genuinely good nature and bright spirit making it easy for him to find a place within the house. He made friends easily and never had to experience the loneliness of Johnson's Home for Boys while at Hogwarts. Summers were, however, another story entirely. He stayed at Hogwarts for Christmas, but summer holiday meant he had no choice but to return to Johnson's Home, to his cramped little bedroom, and to his loneliness. He had no owl and no window to his room, so getting mail was almost impossible. He found jobs to keep him out and making money, but the loneliness he had escaped while at Hogwarts returned with full force the moment he returned to Room 311.
